I think that is a fair point in terms of capacity and expansion issues of LHR.
The expansion of LHR is either never going to happen or is going to continue to be procrastinated by politicians who dont want to stick their head above the parapet and say what a lot of people are thinking. Therefore why not expand capacity through MAN?

I know im sticking my head above the parapet and am prepared to be corrected by my more learned v-flyers.

I know Newcastle are very interested in having a US link but given the EK quality of J seating, even MAN flights would be better than suffering London connections.
I'm afraid VS & BA cannot compete if EK offer a direct northern transatlantic route.

I agree. However like Jane said upthread the competition would be good. Though unless LHR get their 3rd runway this kind of situation is inevitable no?
