We're off to SFO & Vegas in September, booked through VH. We're in the Bellagio for five nights, currently booked into a standard room. We've stayed there before so not really fussed about paying extra for a fountain view. However we are toying with the idea of upgrading to a Bellagio Suite, after all we've splashed out on Virgin Atlantic UC so why not splash out on the hotel! VH have quoted me £720 for upgrading to the suite, exactly as per brochure supplement, this reduces to £648 after the 10% FV discount. To try & ascertain if this is good value I've compared the price on bellagio.com of a standard room versus a Bellagio Suite, the difference is £644. So seems like the VH price is fair.

Before I take the plunge I wondered if any vflyers have any comments/recommendations? Perhaps it's worth doing nothing in advance and simply asking what they would charge for an upgrade on the day we arrive?

Finally, Bellagio offers three types of Suites: The Salone, The Bellagio and the Penthouse. Has anyone stayed in any of these and got any rec's? The Salone appears to be an oversized "studio style" room.

Many thanks

James

I can tell you that having the rooms/suites facing the fountains are worth having if you've never stayed there before. Depending on how long you are staying you are bound to know all the words to 'Proud to be an American' and 'Time to say Goodbye' and you will get used to hearing the 'whoosh' of the pressure jets going up at key points. They pump the music into the room as well.
We had a standard fountain view and I thought the room was fantastic. However, I have got to say that I found the Bellagio on whole to be aweful. Staff looked down their noses at me something else and I really take offence to that! My favourite Vegas hotel, although I have not actually stayed there is The Mirage and the secret garden is well worth a visit (assuming that Sigfried and Roy have not taken their White Tigers to be put down for the mauling).

You could always try asking at check-in too. I've been offered on many occasions at LV hotels the option to upgrade to a larger room.

I was automatically upgraded to a Deluxe Lakeroom view at the Bellagio in March via FHR at AmEx - and the view was great!

Thanks,
Richard

Through Virgin, you are allowed to check in at the VIP area, which I did and I was offered a free upgrade to a Penthouse suite. Funnily enough I turned it down as I had secured a fountain view room through VH (last time we were there, there was none available and I wasn't going to miss out this time!) - she looked surprised as I guess not many people turn down a free suite upgrade!

I was glad I did as the 'standard' room was fantastic and the views of the show by night were amazing - and yes, I'm Proud To Be An American is still ringing through my ears, as is Luck Be a Lady, Viva Las Vegas, some spaghetti western sound-a-like and All that Jazz - great schmultz!!

Really enjoyed the stay and the staff were fantastic - can't wait to go back again, and perhaps next time blag that free upgrade!!

I stayed in a penthouse without a lake view, and next time, now that I have done the ph, I would go for a smaller room with a lake view. Maybe!

If its a choice of a regular room with a lake, or a small suite without, go for a lake view, especially if its the first time.

Anything with a lake view is the answer, the view at night is stunning. I still have Con Te Partiro on my iPod as a great memory of those fountain shows.

Only downside for me on the Bellagio (and I guess it applies to most LAS hotels) was that it was so big and impersonal. Maybe just me thinking that but i enjoyed it though - the luxury and style!

James, the range of suite categories is actually greater than that but those are the three that appear on the website. You are correct about the Salone Suite, it is a one room suite [soapbox mode]which to me is an incorrect description because a suite is precisely that a "suite" of rooms, so cannot be one room![/soapbox mode]. They are corner rooms with double aspect windows. The Bellagio suites are very decent and spacious and obviously the Pethouses are even better as both Highflyer and Peggit can (and have) testified to.

The particular suite I like is in the tower of the main block, the tower being the bow fronted portion in the middle of the building. These are two bedroom/two bathroom with large lounge with several windows, superb lake/fountain views and a wet bar. Every other floor (can't remember whether it is odd or even numbered floors) also have balconies.

As you are there for five nights and if you want to spoil yourselves, go for a suite.

Thanks everyone for the various replies. Well we're fresh back from Vegas, flew back on last night's VS044, trip reports submitted!

Yep, we did upgrade to a Suite, we asked on checking in last Sunday if they were doing any specials on suite upgrades. The answer was yes - Sundays are the day they generally offer these and she could do us a non-lake view Penthouse Suite for $150 a night. Given that VH's upgrade cost (NB: only to a Bellagio Suite, VH don't even go as far as offering the Penthouse) is £144 (yes pounds) we did not hesitate in accepting Ballagio's $150 offer. We weren't disappointed, the suite was truly huge, we worked out it took up the space of three normal rooms. It had a large hallway, powder room (with loo) off hall, huge living room, adjoining dining room with large round table, full wet bar wih bar stools, separate bedroom, two bathrooms incorporating steamroom, whirlpool batch, dressing rooms. The TV in the bedroom was sunk in to a cabinet at the foot of the bed and rose up when switched on. There were even small TV's in each of the bathrooms!

The fact that we had no fountain view didn't matter, we have stayed there before and had a lake view room, on this occasion we wanted extra space for a friend staying over with us for some of the stay. Our suite was a corner suite on the 32nd floor so had a double aspect with views of strip and beyond. I've taken a few photos so will get those posted tomorrow.

Well done vegascrazy, that was a blinding deal you got for a Penthouse Suite [y][y][y]. I look forward to reading your TR when I have a bit more time. I hope Bellagio was as good as ever?

Fozzyo and myself were given a tour of the suite and it was very impressive. Particulary liked the huge bath, and shower/steam room. Shame the decor was so garish :D

For our first visit, I'm glad were were in a lakeview room (an upgrade wasn't offered at check in). Even the standard rooms are massive with separate showers and baths (one hallmark of a luxury hotel in my mind). and the fountain shows are spectacular, really they were much more impressive, seen either from the room or the street (or Picasso's) than i expected them to be!

I agree with Bazz, a suite should have a separate bed area, ideally as a complete room with door.

We asked about the suites at the front of the hotel, they told us they were normally arranged through the casino (comps?) not the hotel and are called Cypres Suites.

No offence to anyone, but what exactly is the point of getting a suite or paying extra for room upgrades?
I've just spent a few days in Las Vegas at the Luxor which was a normal deluxe room - very nice. Must say that I only spent a few hours in there, 3-4 sleeping, showering and just dropping things off. There's so much to do in the city that you're hardly ever in your room to get any real benefits from it's features......well, in my case anyway.

Must admit I'm with you xenole, and would add that having looked at the recent photos, the rooms look a little mock Louis XV and Flock wallpaper for my taste. But I guess its a matter of personal choice, and if someone has the money and wants to blow it on the luxury of a suite the size of the superbowl, then good on them.

Exactly, its different strokes for diffrent folks!

Im one of those awkward people who never wants to stay in a standard room, if im going on vacation i want to see what the best available is and then see how close to that i can get on my budget. Part of the holiday for me involves having a lovely hotel suite (and a lovely VS flight ;))

Vegas is of course one of the most ostentatious and opulent places to go for vacation, so the hotel room has to follow suit :D
