Hi,

We're thinking of booking a couple of flights while we're in NZ and I thought I'd investigate the mileage tier points situation. Here's me thinking 'Oooh a couple more tier points to add to the RTW total' but it turns out the flights will be too short (Auckland to Taupo & Auckland to Wellington) to qualify.

Does anyone know any tricks to beat this, eg: requesting a particular fare code, or am I just a chancer! [:I]

Hello you!

Havent you got all this sorted by now? Your off in Nov!!! [:p]

Internal flights are tricky as you have to fly over the 2000 miles to earn the points or fly in J.

A lot of ANZ internal flights are all Y, when i started my research for my GE the original plan was a stop-over in AKL so i had a look at flights to CHC and WLG but discovered there was no J cabin [:0]

My J flight from SYD-AKL only earnt me 1 TP - so its not really a great deal earning wise.

Unless you can get over the 2000 miles threshold or find a return flight in J in dont see it happening [:(]

Hi Sarah!

Yes, thought I might be chancing in somewhat [:I]

Just getting to the stage now of booking trips. We don't drive and didn't fancy organised coach tours, so thought we'd take a couple of day trips.

So far we've booked/reserved:
Treatments at the Clubhouse
Dinner at Felix
Afternoon Tea at the Pen
Tranzapline Safari Tour from Christchurch
Train tickets to Kaikoura follwed by a whale watching helicopter trip
Tickets for the Foo's in Auckland!
Dinner at the Sky Tower on my 30th

I've also worked out day trips and waht buses/ferries to catch in Hong Kong and Sydney.

Phew.....I'm getting there. All this an organising a wedding AND emigrating to NZ is starting to get a bit tiring. Can't wait for the trip though

Wow! You have done well with booking all those trips!

Your doing so well to organise all this, i thought organising the GE was hard enough, never mind adding a wedding and an emigration to the pot! You'll need a holiday after all this you know [:I]

The Whale watching sounds good - we went on a trip in SYD and saw Humpbacks but no breaching - and it was very cold that day too! Hope you have more luck than me!

The Trans Alpine tour looks amazing (if its the same one i looked at a while back), are you going to do the Jet Boat part? That part would scare the willies out of me!!

Gosh, im so excited for you going on this trip ... makes me want to book another!! [:p]

LOL It's not like you too want to book a holiday!

The SI trip is the one which includes the jet boat ride and then you get the Trans Apline Train back to Christchurch.

I think we'll just book some flights to Wellington for the day and if we fancy doing another trip, we'll book something while we're there.

I was surprised that the Pen let me reserve a table for afternoon tea. I'd read somewhere that it was just pot luck on the day. Have to say, they've been fantastic in answering my emails.
