Whilst not disagreeing entirely with JonÕs sentiments, the main raison dÕetre of V-Flyer is to discuss matters directly or indirectly relating to Virgin Atlantic. We have tried in the past to enlarge the review part of the site that relates specifically to VS destinations, but it has never really been that popular.

The reviews can also quickly become out of date.

There are lots of other sites that have reviews of hotels / attractions and they are probably the best points of reference. Also, if anyone has specific questions about a destination, they are usually answered by helpful members.

Sorry if this sounds negative, but I for one have barely enough time to keep up to date with the VS threads.;)[8D]

I have tended to find that "review" forums for hotels, resorts, shows etc tend to be on the whole negative. People with a gripe or a moan tend to be more likely to post a review.

This usually results in putting a downer on ones expectations.

I switched hotels once because of a famous travel review site.
then looked up my next hotel I booked ( The Bellagio )and 90% of those reviews were negative too. The place was the dogs bol*** when I actually got there, lol

I agree with egg. I have given up using the hotel review sites for exactly that reason.

But on the otherhand I have been a ked for destination tips, and I have noticed quite a few posts asking for top tips. Maybe if we had a top recommendations area it may work better?

Aso agreed with EGG

Similarly, without this sounding pretentious, a lot of the people on these forums/websites have differing standards in regards to their holidays than myself and many people on this forum. Many of us on here travel regularly, and therefore have different expectations and i think this is sometimes reflected in the reviews i have read.

There is also the case that some people are never satisfied and seem to complain about everything, even things that are well beyond the hotel or travel company's control

If there is something travel related that i want feedback on, i no longer bother with the hotel review sites, i'll either ask on here (as Nick suggests) or ask among friends/work colleagues for someone who has been there.

Tend to agree. Maybe what we really need is a knowledge bank detailing who has been where/when (destinations/hotels/restaurants/tourist spots) then we would know who to PM for an opinion.

Agree with Sailor wholeheartedly, use the section for positive tips only [y]

Have placed a few reviews on the your opinion section where I believe the whole experience has exceeded expectations.

As an aside, I use Trip Advisor regularly and find that you can get a very fair view of hotels and restaurants etc on there

Just thought it would be a useful thing to have the opinions of fellow V-Flyers, but hey, if no one is interested then don't worry

While the facility is there I'll keep posting reviews when I feel the establishment deserves it, in case the minority wish to view :)

As an aside Phil

That knowledge bank exists on here - home page > your opinions section

Hence you can check who has placed the review and base your opinion on that

It was only an idea folks - Use it if you want to

Could be a good idea Buffy. I know on the Dibb they used to have (probably still do, its been a while since i logged in over there) a list of Hotels along with members who had stayed there so you knew who to PM for information or advice.

Only problem with such a task is administrating it - you offering?? :D:D Hehe!

Well I will be honest and say that I have used and posted to tripadvisor, but working in the hotel industry I know that 90% of what im going to read will be complaints, you have to learn to look's at each complaint and judge what the problem is.

I recently found out that we have to make a trip to central California in June, after reading a few of the reviews it dawned on me that a few of the members here can be found lurking around that area at various times of the year,so I put up a quick Post and got great hotel ideas straight away.

So yes I think a hotel rating guide might be a good idea, kind of like the seat maps we have for the aircraft.

However as highFlyer said people have different standards, for myself im happy with a hotel that has comfy beds and wont get raided during the night by cops, the wife however thinks ruffing it is going to a Hilton,so it could turn into a nightmare trying to keep everything straight.

You could always use the search function and put in an area or even a hotel name,if not just ask for advice on hotels like I did.
