Had a 'snail-mail' mailer from Amex inviting me to take out a no fee BA Amex CC. (No fee providing you keep your other Amex account!) Extra miles seemed to be the only real bonus as although it enrolled you in the BA Executive Club it was only at the lowest (Blue?) level.

May be worth having for those of you who have to or prefer ;) to travel with BA, anybody else get one? I am interested to learn how targeted this promo was.

Didn't get the mail but then again we already have 3 of the BA prem + cards:D.If anyone needs one and didn't get the mail apply for an amex blue card first then the prem + it knocks the fee from £120 to £20PA its free to Amex Plat and cent card holders.Main advantage of this card is the BA 241 voucher triggered once PA after £10k spend. That works out at 150k ba miles for 2 seats in First to US.[y]

I got this mail and am half tempted as we may move our allegiance from VS [:0]* elsewhere in the next couple of years. I do fly a bit on BA so earning at a higher rate (3 points per £) when you purchase BA tickets on the card (otherwise 1.5 points per £) looks like a reasonable way of getting the miles back in my BAEC account. And the 2-4-1 voucher is an excellent benefit that far outweighs VS's companion seat.

BC

* Honestly... Our next RTW will probably be either OW or *Alliance, and frankly *Alliance is just no good across the Atlantic.

The BA card is recommended because of the balance transfers...

"4.9%p.a. for the life of the balance on all balances"

Don't spend on it, just use it for balance transfers, as recommended by Martin Lewis.

A fair point, locutus, but then you get none of the benefits from actually spending on the card (miles plus that great 2-4-1 voucher).

Small correction to what jagpig says - having an Amex Blue knocks the price down to £30 p.a.

What BC said about earning when buying BA tickets is a good point - you can rack up the miles fast this way. My flight to Switzerland in a month will earn me only 250 miles for actually flying it, but earnt me 450 miles for buying it!

Also just bought my boss some tickets for his trip to EDI with some friends - he would have used his debit card otherwise! Very wasteful! :)

As Mrs Buns and I are still trying to achieve Au, I think BA may have to wait awhile

Have just applied for this too and having a Amex Gold Charge Card means you get it for free now apparently (despite the fact I also manage to avoid paying the annual fee for the Gold Charge Card!!)

This isn't reflected in the current Terms and Conditions on the Amex website.

According to section 12, a holder of an Amex Gold Charge (amongst other cards) would be entitled to a "Premium Plus Two" card, which according to section 6.3.2 would atrract a fee of £30 still.

Who is telling you that it is now fee free with a Gold Charge card?

The 2-4-1 on redemptions is a great offer, and one that was passed to the FC team to look into. That was a couple of years ago now, but then I wasn't expecting it to happen just like that. There is a cost involved with all rewards, and its not a like for like comparison, especially now that VS is dishing out miles on all revenue fares where BA does not.

BA Premium Plus has been free to Plat and Centurion Charge cardholders from day 1.

Thanks,
Richard

Can I just add that, from what Ive been told, is that you need to have had held a gold card for at least six months before they reduce your BA annual fee. Ive had a premium plus BA card for 4 years now and I took out a Gold card (with the VS offer) in July of 2005. On my BA Amex bill this month, I have a £120 fee to pay. Immediately, I called them to tell them I thought I had this sorted out and the lady explained to me this six months business. It turns out that Ive had my gold card for 5 months and 3 weeks! My appeal has gone to some department and they will let me know if I have to pay the £30 fee I agreed upon before taking out the gold or the full £120. Should the latter happen, I will cancel the card! (And I hinted this to her!!). [:(]

Customer Service told me it would be free! In fact my card arrived this morning and just called to check and no charge for it - have been a Gold Charge Card holder for 6 years though so maybe this is why and I think they have noticed my spending decline since I acquired the Virgin Mastercard - think they could be having a problem with customer retention!
