Tried to check in online during a break in the wedding reception (sad I know but wanted to ensure we got our seats!) but it wasn't letting me do it. I didnt have an e-ticket despite 3 attempts by Virgin to e-mail it to me and so at check in security was told to go to the Upper Class ticket desk. It took ages to print me a ticket as my booking had changed fare codes. We were allowed to use the Upper Class check in as it was empty which was great as we got a fast track pass and 20A and C as reserved.
Boarding was painless - by the time we got to the gate the queue was moving well so went straight on. The plane was a config 1 so had the old PE seats but as this was my first time in PE that didn't matter at all. Pushback was only 10 minutes or so late.
Food was good I thought - had the beef and the missus enjoyed the GU pudding. Had pre-ordered a celebration cake and champagne which didn't come, so asked when the duty free came round but was told it would be delivered seperately. Settled down to V:port and happily mangaged to pass 5 or 6 hours watching, listening, playing and sleeping. The missus was surprised how quickly the flight went. When breakfast was served I went looking for the duty free order - at first no-one knew about it but someone went looking for it and located it. The crew apologised and said they would bring it out. Rather than open the champagne I had bought they offered us a glass which was a nice touch. Meant we could save the cake as well for our hotel room!
Smooth landing into JHB and couldn't beleive an 11 hour flight could go so quickly. For me was all down to PE and V:port (and of course the excitement of being with my new wife!). We are converts now - the extra space in PE makes the difference for us and can't wait to try the new enhanced service (although managed to get a preview on the way home!)
