Not so keen on the changed earlier flight time of VS5, but it does mean you get into MIA earlier in the day. Stopped overnight at the Marriott hotel, and got one of the free local buses in. Negiotated the continual building site that is Terminal 3, and wandered up to Upper Class check-in. Although there were a few people there, the check-in was very speedy and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Fast track was relatively slow and somehow managed to avoid the shoe screening. Did a very small amount of targeted shopping and then headed to the lounge.

As it had been rather warm getting through the terminal, had a nice refreshing shower to freshen up before the flight. Unable to get a table in the restaurant for breakfast, although all the large tables were empty and 'reserved'. Managed to secure my usual eggs benedict (although no longer on the menu) and the other half seemed to have to wait ages for a bacon roll (the order wasn't placed).

Called early for the flight and wandered down to Gate 1. The usual crowds, although a VS employee was checking Upper and Gold through the initial screening first. However then you joined the other queue, so not really priority! Once through, straight onto the plane and into Seat 10A. Greeted by a very cheerful and pleasant cabin crew and offered the usual champagne - early but it would be rude not too!

A little late pushing back and then a relatively slow taxi to the runway. Seemed a very slow take-off and thought we weren't actually going to make it off the ground. After take off changed into my sleep suit - for some reason (lucky for me) they only had large and small on board. Crew were friendly and attentive, with rapid drinks round. Decided to delay eating as a little early for lunch, although everyone else seemed to eat early, and unless you asked to delay they assumed you wanted early service.

vPort worked fine, although apparently as usual the inflight map froze your system and we were advised not to use it. Apparently somewhere down the back there was an annoying chime bell going off for the flight - not up front luckily.

Lunch was the same as my previous flight - very good and love the Square pie option! One comment is was surprised we were offered nuts with drinks, as we were advised there was someone with a severe nut allergy on board the flight and not to open any nuts??

Had my usual hot hands treatment - rather spookily, the IFBT went to the same school as me, although a few years after me. Was funny catching up on things and she was a very friendly IFBT - a good find for VS.

Flight was all too short, so only managed about 30 mins sleep, but did fit in 3 films. Afternoon tea was ok - sandwichs not great, but love the scone and cup cakes!

Thought I would almost have to get off in my sleep suit as the fasten seat belt sign came on about an hour before landing due to turbulence, although was allowed to sneek to the toilet to change!

All in all, a very enjoyable and good flight. The crew were very good - although no introduction from the FSM to passengers in UC. Felt a little sorry for those down the back with the ongoing chime throughout a lot of the flight.

Be interested to know if the earlier flight arrival means that the wait in MIA immigration is less? At the old time it was a nightmare and it was one of the chief reasons I stopped visiting Miami ...
