I was working in London for a couple of days prior to this trip so stayed over at the LHR Crowne Plaza the night before. A friend from work was coming along for the 'jolly' and I met up with him on the Thurs evening and sunk a few beers then had a reasonably early night.

Caught the Hoppa bus at 0745 and headed to check in where lines were nice and quiet. I was happy a about this as I had tried OLCI the night before but it wasn't working. A VS staff member quickly pounced on my mate John and offered him a PE upgrade for 169 one way - I suggested this was a reasonable price so he went for it and the chap who did the selling ushered us over to an empty desk and checked us in! He also suggested we both go via the new UC security and explain that we're both travelling together and heading for the Clubhouse - this was no problem and we were ordering the full English a little over 10 mins later!

The Clubhouse wasn't too busy and we were plied with copious amounts of Champers (as previously mentioned) before toddling off to gate 1 where Lady P was waiting. Now, I don't do queue barging so was happy when we were asked by a staff member if we were travelling PE or UC and escorted to the front of the line.

Boarded the plane quickly and settled into 11k upstairs. The cabin was nice and fresh but the seat was narrower than downstairs and felt the same as a 340-600 version. Quickly offered drinks and nibbles and advised by the captain of the 10h21m flight time, had a top up and then we were off. V-Port was switched on about 20mins after takeoff but threw a couple of wobblers and it was over an hour before it started working properly.

I ordered the Arbroath Smokie pate for starter and the Square Pie for main. Both were good and I particularly enjoyed the simplicity of the main course!

I was most annoyed that I had forgotten to pack my QC2's and missed them terribly! An uneventful flight followed and landing into SFO was on time. I was travelling light with only hand luggage but was nabbed by the TSA for a secondary screening. A very strange affair being sent to a room full of people all sitting in deathly silence no doubt wondering what the hell was going on. After 20 mins I was called over and thanked for my patience, given my passport back and sent on my way!

A friend was collecting us and we headed down to Merced for a couple of days before heading back up to SFO to meet up with fellow V-Flyers on the Sunday evening.

Regards

John

And welcome back to the US the TSA way [:p]

Well this whole 'private' entrance thing has got me rethinking my opinions of LHR...problem is unless I travel solo I wont get to the CH...and a solo reward flight this year may mean big trouble in little Vegas...so '09 it is....bugger I am already talking like it's '08 [:p]

Anyways good to see the food is looking up..just in time for the Christmas menu [B)][:#][n]

That's what I thought Richard - especially from an N class fare which we couldn't upgrade using miles on the return.
