Well its been a good while since i've attempted to write up a trip report so here goes nothing.

Would you believe i did not step foot on a plane during the whole of last year[:0] so that added onto doing exams last year, starting college, living out of a suitcase, doing college work, having to try and get up for all of my 1pm lectures, surviving scummy nightclubs and the hardest thing of all, the sight of rain, i felt it was time for a nice holiday.

Lucky for me, i have a study month for the majority of april so what better time to jet off. Since i wanted sun and zero percent chance of rain, dubai was the ideal location (also for the great golf courses in the region[:D]). low agus behold myself and honeylamb jetted off.

After arriving an hour late from our connecting flight from ORK on EI, we made the treck from T1 to T3. It was my first time in T3 since it had been done up. The first thing that struck me was after you have arrived via the underground walkway, that you arrive in the open air and not in the terminal itself. Not the best if you arrive in the rain i feel. We were promptly checked in and given directions to the lounge and where i had to drop off my golf clubs.

I must say i like the VS fasttrack and it actually lives up to its name unlike the previous fasttrack which sometimes got congested. We headed straight to the lounge and didnt boder dilly dalling in the duty free.

I had a hair appointment for 7p.m but due the our flight from ORK arriving late we arrived at the lounge around 6.45pm and at this stage i was starving, so tried to rearrange my appointment. I was able to flex it by 10mins. I headed over for some food but was interupted halfway thru the meal by a women from the salon saying it was now or never for the haircut. Since my hair was as long as the Augusta rough, i headed over straight away. I asked the server if she could keep the rest of my meal warm.

After having my hair cut by a very pleasent women, i headed back to finish my meal. Here's where the fun began. They brought out a freshly cooked meal but unfortunally it wasnt to my tastes. so while they were scrambling to get the order right, i headed over for a very quick shower in the spa. By the time i arrived back, the food had just arrived, freshly cooked again and we were back in business (but why couldnt they have just kept the rest of my meal warm in the first place)

After all the running and racing i needed a drink, but since there wasnt enough time for a quick pint, i needed something else. I asked the barman for something with jager in it but unfortunally i was informed that they didnt have any[:#]. A guy at the bar suggest a mojito which i promptly took (booze is booze[:p]). It was a bit sweet for my liking but after finishing it, we headed to the gate.

I cant remember which gate we left from but it was the same ole ding dong when it came to boarding. Queing with the security man asking questions. Queing in the jetway with the Y and PE people. It seems to me somethings never change when it comes to priorty boarding, espically in LHR.

The aircraft for todays flight was G-VWKD, an a340-600. The last time we saw this aircraft was when were in Hong Kong on the way to and from Sydney. That time it was on the injured list after she scraped her arse off the runway during take-off.

We were welcomed onboard and soon we were offered drinks. The IFBT came around soon after. I requested the shoulders and back massage but declined to be woken up. If i had known after the IFBT being axed, i may have change my mind to be woken in order to have a better chance of having my last treatment onboard.

We were slightly late taking off since a passenger didnt show up and the ground crew had to go on a tresure hunt in the hold in order to find the persons treasure chest.

We took off behind afew BA and BMI flights. I was mainly interested in sleeping for the flight so once the seatbelt sign went off, i handed my breakfast card to the FA, prepared my bed and jetted off to the land off nod.

Fair play to the FA for being able to wake me up without waking the whole upper cabin because normally i can be very hard to wake up, espically after little sleep.

I had some cornflakes and toast for brecky. The toast was like wood and i think i have come to the conclusion that there are certain things you can do on a plane but toast aint one of them.

Soon enough after we started our decent into DXB as the sun began to gleam on the sea. We flow right over one of the new islands that they are building and safely touched down. This was followed by a nice long taxi which enabled me to do a bit of spotting. I love DXB for being able to spot classics like 727's, DC-8's etc and of course the Biman a310 which is being held up with wooden pallets[}:)].

We pulled in at a remote stand as usual in DXB. I asked if it was possible to see the flight deck and much to my delight i was granted permission. The captain and first officer were very nice and gave me a slight tour of the systems.

Immigration was a breeze and the one of the bags were out quick enough. But as per usual the clubs came out near last[:(!]. Headed thru customs where i was asked afew questions about cigrattes which i dont even touch so was ushered on.

Overall i was an uneventful flight with nothing ordinary to report.

Great read AerJohn, I do hope you can rise for the round of golf at 1pm, though in Dubai methinks it might be somewhat earlier!

AerJohn

Great to have your perspective on the flight and given you have not had the benefit of travelling in the past year, for you to conclude this flight was nothing out of the ordinary means that VS at least did not disappoint you[:D]

To realise that you have may have missed out on one of the last In Flight treatments must be gutting, but you of course also mentioned about waking you from your slumbers[}:)][}:)]

hope the Golf gave you the chance to unwind from your studies
