After a successful trip to Vegas and a short internal flight on Virgin America, we checked in for our VS flight to LHR. As we were about 2 1/2hrs before flight time, we couldn't change our seats to the coveted 28AC or 29HK as these were obviously snagged by people who had checked in early. We did manage to retain our pre booked 32HK seats though.

Enquired about upgrading from a K class PE ticket to upper and was quoted 1999pp and no S class' were available to try for mile upgrade either, only W and the same price was quote for that so PE it was on our return.

Wandered around SFO for a short while which is quite a small airport compared to some but better than others (LAS international terminal for example). Through security without any large queues but definitely busier than our recent internal flight.

Sat by the gate near to boarding time and couldn't believe how many children seemed to be running riot near the gate area and playing with the dividing/partitioning tapes near the desks. Neither parents or staff said anything.

Priority boarding worked well, upper/PE/gold in left hand lane and families with small children in the right.

Pre flight drink offered and of course accepted. Seat belt signs took ages getting turned offer but the minute this happened the guy in 31K fully reclined and I found it difficult to see the screen. He didn't move for the whole flight, having no food etc so I presume he'd taken a sleeping tablet and just gone to the land of nod.

Vport was visible in 32K but no sound. Tried 2 sets of headphones and my husbands which worked in 32H but not in K. Asked for a DVD player which was brought out but the selection of films offered were not so good. Hubby said there were a couple he wanted to watch so we switched seats. I watched vport and he used the player. This was tricky though as he's taller than me and with the guy in front in full recline meant his knees were virtually on the back of the seat.

After a drinks round, meals were brought out swiftly and there was a BBQ chicken and shrimp/rice option. Both were very nice and a lot better than the food on our outward journey.

I couldn't sleep so continued with film/tv watching. Caught Read after Burning, Eagle Eye, Frasier, Family Guy and a very strange lego cartoon type show about two gay guys. Lego gone live is very weird!

About 2 hours to landing a breakfast muffin or bagel were offered but both of these had cheese in which I can't eat. Thankfully the fantastic lady who sorted out the DVD player assisted again and brought me a bacon roll from upper which was good of her. A blueberry cereal bar was also given out.

Water/juice was offered throughout the night too.

We were held for 20 mins circling heathrow and when landing couldn't get on stand as an Air Canada plane had not yet left. We waited 25 mins on tarmac which is typically when I started to drift off to sleep.

After upper class got off, the right hand side of PE were allowed off and then the left which was unusual. A long walk to immigration but there were only about 4 people in front of us as it was really quiet unlike when the very early morning flights arrive. We even had a nice immigration officer greet us which is unusual in this country.

Went to catch the Hotel Hoppa to collect our car from the Crowne Plaza which should arrive within 20 mins. For some reason this took 35 minutes which when arriving on a cold morning is not brilliant to be stood around waiting. The one driver of another hoppa bu was surprised we were still there after he'd done his 2nd round trip. Thankfully the M40 was clear on our return, so a straightforward journey back from the Midlands to the joys of unpacking and washing!!

Nice touch being offered a bacon roll instead, not a bad flight by the sounds, too bad you didnt have a tazer in your hand bag for the guy in front.

cheers
