After almost two weeks of rest my knee was slowly getting better - I cant believe how long it is taking and it was time to come home. We rang Virgin to arrange wheelchair assistance as I was still unable to walk very far and certainly not very fast. It seemed every time we rang the US toll free number we were transferred to the UK Premier Team who were very helpful and sorted everything out for me.

Check in was smooth and the wheelchair lady was waiting to take us through security and up to the lounge. She then said she would check when we were boarding and she would come and get me.

I know people complain about the Miami lounge but I think it is unjust. It is not a patch on the Clubhouse but its clean, there are plenty of drinks and sandwiches and soup and nibbles. Magazines and newspapers were available. There are showers but I am not sure if they are free or not.

We were taken from the lounge downstairs and we were boarded first. The crew were amazing and stressed that if I needed anything during the flight not to worry about calling them. In fact in the confines of the cabin I felt safe walking around because I had plenty to hold on to.

Again changed into my pjs and settled down. Drinks were served and re offered before take off.

After take off I asked again for the basket of goodies - this time the FSM said there were no plans to remove them only they are not being offered. Passengers who know about them can ask for goodies but people who dont wont!

The evening meal was good. I had the soup and the sole which was very nice. It was a very large portion and I could not eat it all. Dont think I have ever thought that about a plane meal before.

I know I watched a movie but I cant remember what it was. I think the tablets I was taking to ensure that my leg did not swell during the flight affected my brain! I then settled down to sleep and slept almost through til morning.

Breakfast was being served and there was some sort of issue about the milk running out. Also Mr A wanted the fresh fruit without yogurt but they only had fruit with so I gave him mine as I seemed to have the last fruit only bowl.

It had been very turbulent flight and I dont think hot food was being served but I was a little hazy to be honest. The tablets were strong and did the trick. I do remember several times the seatbelt signs going on and announcements being made about staying in your seat.

Landing was smooth and quick.

Sadly the wheelchair assistance at Heathrow is dreadful. It is no longer organised by the airline but by BAA who clearly do not care. I am only too lucky to be in this position for a short time.

Since coming home I have seen my doctor and am now undergoing physio and hopefully will not need any surgical intervention as long as things settle down. My poor dogs are just missing their walkies at the moment.

Thanks for reading.

I can only agree how Heathrow lets us down as a the first impression of our Country[n]

Good to see that VS looked after you as far as was possible for them

Thanks Tinkerbelle. Mr A insists that more than my knee was affected[:I] but I think it was a lack on concentration!

Ooh, I just popped in to change it for you but Tinks beat me to it in pointing it out.

A nice couple of trip reports but how disappointing for your knee to go in NYC. Hope it improves soon and the dogs get their walkies.
