Managed to get away from work at 3.50pm in Birmingham to drive to LHR for a quick weekend in Dubai. M40 and M25 were quite clear so dropped the car with the meet and greet parking company by 6pm. Checked in online and picked up boarding passes and dropped off baggage - all done in a very civilised 5 minutes.

Through the private security channel and picked up a couple of items from duty free before setting into the lounge. Enquired initially about treatment availability at the spa reception and was put on a waiting list (didn't manage to get one though). Settled down in the gallery behind the bar (sofa nearest the hairdressing section screened off). Quickly offered drinks and food (tikka and burger) and service was excellent as drinks refreshed quickly when empty, so certainly not in a blind spot.

Boarding commenced on time and settled into 3 and 4k. A couple had been split between 2 and 16k and a very kind gentleman offered to swap with them so they could sit side by side. He was happier as 2k is quiet and he only wanted to sleep. The FAs did the usual round of drinks and even supplied me with a nailfile as I had just broken my nail. I changed into my sleepsuit and finished my champagne before take off and slept immediately after take off until about an hour before landing. Hubby had a whisky/cheese nightcap and slept very soon after. The usual snoring noises came from around the cabin but on the whole a great flight for sleeping.

After waking, I started to watch Red and the FA asked if I would like breakfast. I hadn't looked at the menu and just asked for a full english. After checking, she said this is offered only on longer flights and would I be happy with a sausage sandwich. This was fine and delivered very quickly. The remainder of the cabin were waking at this time and the breakfast service was quickly organised.

A very smooth landing into Dubai and off first as the exit door at the front of the aircraft was used. Baggage reclaim was a dream too as we only had 1 bag and it was about the 5th off.

Overall, an excellent flight for a quick weekend away.

:0 :0 VS no longer offers a full dinner service on this flight and now is cutting back on the breakfast.

With prices still high, I might just look elsewhere

Good that the service in the Clubhouse did not fail you

Hope you had a good weekend

The VS400 has been a Good Night Flight, flight since it was introduced ... no change there, and for once I agree, since t/o is 9.10 pm and eating in the clubhouse is a much better option if time allows.

Thanks for the TR. If the flight is late and I have eaten in the CH I always look forward to waking up to a big breakfast.

Thanks for the TR - bet you were really excited leaving work and driving to the airport knowing you were off away - probably the most interesting M40/M25 drive!

Glad the flight was good :)
