When I first did the booking, all the A seats from 8 to 16 were taken, so I had to keep checking MMB until 9A suddenly freed up

So unto the actual flight. I had booked a place in DTCI for 8 and set out from home at about 6:45pm and thanks to a bit of traffic around the Chiswick area leading unto the A4/M4 got to the airport at about 8:15. Still within time. For some reason, my boarding pass and luggage tags hadn't been printed yet so I had to wait for a few minutes. Boarding pass in hand -eventually- I headed up to the private security channel where I had a bit of a wait before being screened (first time ever) and thanks to my fibreboard suitcase and the fact that I had forgotten to take out the OH's birthday present (a shiny new ipad if anyone cares to know) my bag got put aside for secondary screening. That also took a while as my bag was third in line. Eventually got away from security and had to get the duty free shopping done first as I didn't want to traipse up and down the steps or lift. Cigars and whisky purchased for the OH and a bottle of perfume for my partner in chambers and up to the CH I went.
By this time it was about 9 o'clock so I knew that I didn't have much time for a proper meal (I Hadn't eaten all day as I was busy doing last minute stuff. I went for the deli selection instead and had a salad, with salmon and a slice of bread. I still managed to sneak in an ice cream and 2 ginger tops though.
And I also found time to say my first hello from the clubhouse.
Boarding was called at about 9:30 but unlike the usual me, I waited for the next call. The gate was gate 17. When I arrived at the gate, I got compliments on my trolley which pleased me to no end because I absolutely adore it. Boarding was more or less done by the time I got there but there was still a queue at door L2 (or is it L1? I forget. The PE and Y queue anyway) so I figured that it was a full flight. I soon found out that this was true. Before long, I was in my seat with my case stowed and sipping my welcome glass of champagne. I declined the offer of a sleep suit. Interestingly we got the old snooze pack. I found this surprising because I got the new amenity kit on my inbound PE journey. This was however a pleasant surprise for me as my husband had asked me to bring my shoe bag for him as he needed something to store a new pair of trainers he just got, and I told him they’d been discontinued. So lucky for him we got the old kit.
I would like to take a moment to rant about the size of the toothpaste. I don’t give a toss about the toothbrush because I always bring mine. But my goodness I can’t even describe it as a tube of toothpaste. I liked the old one because I like to brush before I sleep, and with that one, you could comfortably brush twice, but this new one is soo tiny that it’s difficult to do. Lesson learned, my own toothpaste is tagging along in the future.
Back to the flight. The crew were attentive and even though it was a night flight, made regular trips around the cabin to see if anyone needed anything. The FSM was busy through all the cabins and was extremely visible through the entire flight. Thumbs up to her.
Now to the meal. I opted out of the started as I’d already had the salmon in the CH, so for mains, I had the beef and potatoes with the veggie. It was actually quite nice, but it could have used a bit more sauce. For desert, I also had the fruit tart which was equally nice. A little while later, I decided to try out the warm chocolate desert as well, so I went to the galley and got one and ate it at the bar. That was also yummy. I tried to watch a film (Snow White and the Huntsman) but I wasn’t really concentrating so I gave up and converted the seat into a bed and had a nap for about an hour and a half or so till about half past 3 AM. I was still hoping to catch a bit more sleep so I didn’t convert the bed back and went to brush my teeth. When I was done, I sat at the bar to get some cold water to drink and got talking to another pax who is heavily involved in charity work and was talking about all his missions and some of the protests he’s organised or participated in. So needless to say, I didn’t get any more sleep, but I did get a peppermint tea at about 4:00, and a smoothie while breakfast was being served. I stayed at the bar till descent into Lagos was about to begin and went back to my seat which had been converted back for me. Landing was pretty smooth and ahead of schedule. Went through immigration quickly thanks to the fact that I was in 9A. Bags collected and out to the humid air of Lagos.
Thanks for reading.
