I must say I was excited when I got my boarding pass via passbook for my first little red flight, and even though it was seq. 3, I was still happy to be shaking off the shackles of BA UK domestic -finally!!!

But then I got sidetracked. I stepped in the doors of Edinburgh airport with hand luggage only, at exactly T-28 mins! :| :| B) I have never done that in my life, as with all the warnings of gates closing 30 mins before departure, I would like to think that I was punctual. I thought I'd be finding out what the Little Red ticketing desk looked like; instead, the lady who scans boarding passes who must have been in a good mood, escorted me past the gigantic queue and wished me 'good luck'. :0 y) I get the feeling I was very lucky.

A quick sprint was in order after the *very* thorough pat down :0 v( and I dashed to the gate to find boarding in progress, and with the few passengers that were left, I counted my lucky stars. Passbook worked a treat and walking out of gate 6, saw the gleaming little red bird (cannot remember her name now!) before being greeted by a smiling CC, then turned right to a shockingly sparsely populated aircraft... The seemingly few people in front of me in the queue were the only occupants of the plane. The unofficial head count was around 35 plus or minus a few as noticed from my shiny new looking seat 20F. No one in the rows directly in front, to the side or behind meant there was peace and quiet!

After the usuals, plus an odd sounding 'cabin crew be seated for cabin secure' ?| , take off was 5 mins before schedule into the windy Scottish skies, and after the seat belt signs were extinguished, our 4 cabin crew emerged armed with the bar service. Soft drink and crisps in hand I sought entertainment - even a sky map would do - but aside from the safety card, there was nothing around... I should have made use of the newspaper stands, but was expecting to be thumbing through Little Red's mag. Perhaps in the future.

After getting to 39,000ft over Manchester, we skipped over Birmingham and began our descent into a quiet LHR airspace and after a short while, we were on finals, turning right around Wembley Stadium and right again aligning with 9R for a windy and bumpy landing, a grand 25 mins before schedule thanks to a very strong tailwind. Into the gate sharpish and off the plane, down the old BMI run from plane to T1 arrivals in less than 2 mins.

Overall, I like the clean and polished appearance of the cabin interior, the smiles on the cabin crew's faces, the purple lighting, the pre-landing sweets and the Irish flight crew, however there is not *that* much to separate this from BA in my POV. On the way up to EDI this morning on BA, the A319 was rammed full of pax, the five CC managed the hot brekkie service with a smile, and the seat was a bit more comfortable and still felt spacious despite the sardine-tin situation. One small point - BA Ag are treated nicely with the lounge entry, priority boarding and the nice 'welcome back Sir' which brightens one's morning no matter how vain it is to have one's ego fed in that way :w ii) . I understand the difference in their programmes, but as VS Ag are normal pax - and I am not saying that it bothers FC Ag me - quite the contrary - I think VS missed out on a great opportunity to entice and solidify its Ag base just by priority boarding (@ no extra cost to VS) or something similar on the domestic service. Pricing has been dealt with in another thread, but I do hope VS have a plan up their sleeves for increasing pax loads, as I don't know how long running at a loss can be feasible. All in all, a wonderful and smartly packaged product from VS... oo) long live Little Red...(hopefully)... :?

y) nice TR.

I only use BA for shuttles down to LGW ( please, please, please VS ) and thus only blue, but every time I board a shuttle, I get welcomed back by name.

I hope loads get better and little red continues to grow ( and maybe just introduce some of the Virgin sparkle ).

Thanks

David
