We weren't able to do on-line check in as we didn’t have our laptop with us. Got to the airport around 1615 and checked in. There was no queue at the PE desk. The agent was very nice and made a humerous comment on how light our suitcases and hand luggage was! There were no queues to go through security either so we spent a bit of time looking in the shops before going to the gate.
At the gate they separated PE and economy – I guess to make it easier for boarding. We had pre-requested seats 24 H/K which we got (we had 19 A/C going out – but decided to try the “new bubble” coming home). Both seats were good for different reasons – 19 A/C was good for a quick exit to get through security and 24 H/K good for a slightly quieter cabin. Both seats don’t have anyone behind them which is great and they still have the same amount of recline. We did like the luggage bins at the side of the seat in the bubble but if you have a large bag then it won’t fit – but as we just had a small rucksack each there was no issue.
We took off on time at 1855 and with a flight time of just 8 hours and 6 minutes were due to land early. We were offered a pre-take off drink and then once airborne a drink and pretzels. The stewardess asked everyone in PE upstairs what they would like for dinner and then came back with the trolley with the meals on and served from the back forwards. We got our first choice despite being in the last row. The menu was:
Grilled marinated shrimp
Braised beef with black beans, rice and fried plantain
Grilled chicken breast with hot and sour mango relish
Spinach and ricotta ravioli
Key Lime Pie
I had the ravioli and my husband had the chicken – we both enjoyed the meal. We didn’t have the starter as we don’t eat fish.
Settled back to watch a film/TV programme and listen to some music and attempted to sleep. Sadly though, even with the extra space in PE we both just can’t get comfortable enough to sleep except for the odd short power nap. Will have to save hard and fly business next time!
We had breakfast shortly before landing:
Full English breakfast with scrambled egg, has browns, bacon and beans or
Full vegetarian breakfast – feta and broccoli frittata, tomato and beans
We both chose the full English which was nice.
We landed just after 0900 but had to wait on board for about 10-15 minutes – we later discovered from friends in economy that the police had boarded the plane and escorted someone off. Didn’t have to wait long for our bags and then off home –at least it was a nice sunny day and 20 degrees! Thank you.
