Flight was called and we got up on the first call, I don’t like to have to rush so we had a leisurely stroll to the gate.
Boarded straight away V-VGAS – Varga Girl and settled into 4 and 5K. Personally I’m not a fan of the layout on the A340-600 I feel squashed in, we’re used to MAN-LAS or MAN-MCO these days and I much prefer the space in front of you in the cabin.
That said the crew were great, we were called Mr and Mrs Shazam at every opportunity by the loveliest female crew member, she was attentive, made sure drinks were topped up regularly and we wanted for nothing the whole flight.
Spent perhaps an hour or so at the bar (stretching my legs you understand) chatted with several of the crew who were all very nice, polite and professional. I overheard them refer to ‘serving the G’s first’ on more than one occasion – I looked on the sheets that were stuck up on the wall and counted 9 golds onboard and it was clear that we were given a priority service from start to finish.
Food was good, I had chicken hubby had steak. I always feel that a flight went well when it goes quickly, having travelled this route for the past 20 years I have known some drag like a seals behind but this one was a dream.
Arrived early to find 2 other flights had just arrived so there was a small line at immigration and the baggage hall was very busy.
Our bags were almost last off ( big thumbs down ) I noticed that another couple who had checked in with us at MAN earlier in PE were also still waiting for their luggage at the end too so clearly a ‘luggage transfer’ issue there. Or perhaps there is no such thing as priority baggage anymore since we waited ages on the return flight too!
Consequently there was a huge line to get out of the baggage area now and in the end we were an hour later than expected arriving on the pavement for our transfer to the hotel, our driver had gone and parked somewhere so after waiting a while we called the company and he finally arrived.
All in all though a great flight and no complaints about the crew or service at all. Niggles with onward transportation were again just one of those things and didn’t spoil our holiday at all, in fact I’d forgotten about them until I sat down to write this.
