We had a good run down to Heathrow on the Saturday morning with a virtually clear run, arrived about 12ish for check in.I had checked in as soon as -T24 opened online but only managed seq 6&7.

Check in was very busy and all desks were occupied so had to wait a little time, but agent was friendly, but when I asked was the aircraft Maiden Tokyo and she said she was not allowed to give out that information and would have to wait till we were in the departure area when I would be able to see for myself I was rather taken back, as every other time I have asked they have always told me.

Anyway we made our way up to the security channel, which like the check in area was also very busy, made it to the lounge at about 12.15, where I had arranged to meet MedwayControl who was also on the same flight.Nice to meet fellow v-flyers, who have gained so much information from this excellent site.

Hubby booked a haircut, so when he finished we went for some lunch, the clubhouse was very busy but we got a seat although did wait quite some time to be served, the ladies were all trying their best and I had 3 courses which were all delicious especially the chocolate pud desert.

We then went to the bar for some drinks and cocktails, hubby loved the Grey Goose, we then met up with MedwayControl for a good old chat, it was soon time for departure where boarding had commenced and it was indeed Maiden Tokyo.

We were greeted at the door with welcome back on board but no names. The flight was full.

All three of us were seated next to each other, the suite was clean and comfortable the same cannot be said for the inflight entertainment.

I asked for a martini, and the CC said it had been taken off the list, so had the Baileys :0 Whatever is the world coming to
had an Amurilo instead which was very nice but not up to a Baileys.

After several failed attempts to get our IFE working we settled for a jumping picture screen and resorted to I-Pads, roll on the new aircraft.

Had the ham hock to start with, then a delicious fillet of beef and cheesecake desert.

Considering it was a 10 hour flight it went reasonably well, with plenty of refreshment offered, MedwayControl confined himself to the bar for most of the flight and certainly hit it off with the crew, as it was his birthday the next day, they gave him some Champagne to take with him.

We had a fantastic view of Hudson Bay, over sparkling clear landscape with the ice melting into the water, very surreal y)

Makes you feel very insignificant when you look down from a plane onto scenes like that.

Also on the flight were Kathy1191 and her husband another V-flyer in PE, so I went and introduced myself where we had a nice chat, we were doing a similar route to them but not in the same place at the same time, they had booked through a travel agent for a VH tour, as it happened we never did our final week as planned to the devastating floods in southern Alberta, luckily we were in Jasper when they happened so we had somewhere nice and dry to explore, doing the Icefields Parkway there and back in one day. :0

Anyway we arrived on time to a very quiet immigration hall and through quickly, Vancouver airport is very vast and modern. The car rental is just over the road so no problems there.Hubby got a brand new Ford Escape only registered the day before so he was happy playing with a new toy.

Overall we had a good flight, would have been nice to have been able to watch a film.

Thanks for the TR. I'm doing this flight in a couple of month's time so it was good to read your comments. I've done the return on the VS96 but it will be my first time on the outbound.

Hope you have a good flight Hazban, Vancouver is massive and in a very beautiful setting with the lakes and mountains all around. It gets very, very busy with traffic and every where you have to go over bridges, even with a Satnav and downloaded maps it was quite a struggle at times.Linda

Lakes and mountains? Not something we see often round Huntingdon way :) Do let us know about the whole trip, it's one we've been thinking about.
