Sorry for the tardiness of this TR but thought I'd contribute my latest trip to the V-Flyer forum.

This was the first leg of a 3 week trip to the US comprising Seattle, Yellowstone NP, San Diego and a brief stay in NYC.

We originally booked an 'L' economy fare upgraded to 'G' with miles, but a stonking VS sale enabled us to change the L to a Z for about £150 each and we were refunded the miles :)

We arrived at the DTCI around 4 hours before departure courtesy of a lift from my GF's father. First time we'd used this service and extremely impressed, bags whisked away and only delayed slightly as I'd made a typo on my passport number which needed to be corrected before we could have our BP's.

Quickly through a quiet UC wing, quick stop in duty free and then 'ahhh' back in the Clubhouse :) for around 3 hours of relaxation.

There's not much more I need to say about this place than has already been said on here. It must be the best airport lounge in the world. Service was reasonably swift and we were able to avail ourselves of a treatment each. I had the free of charge shave (which was excellent) and my GF had a free massage plus a paid-for manicure in one appointment. The rest of our time was spent watching the Olympic Triathlon on the big screens, and eating/drinking 8D a clubhouse burger may have been consumed by myself at this point...

Boarding was called, and we made our leisurely way down to the gate where most passengers were already on board so we walked straight down the jetty on to Soul Sister.

Seat 2A was in reasonable nick, clean with a few signs of wear around the IFE monitor and the divider, and the same was true for my GF's opposite. The cabin was about 75% full, so we were able to avail ourselves of some spare pillows later in the flight :w

Pre-take off drinks were quite slow to be offered, but quickly received once the CC came past. There was a fairly lengthy wait for take off, and once underway the service began around 30 minutes after take off with another drinks round.

I should say at this point that although I'm only FC Red, there was no welcome of any sort from the crew except for drinks/food orders. The FSM didn't speak to either of us during the flight, and didn't appear to speak to any passengers in UC from what I saw, nor did she offer wine. That said she did appear to be managing the service in the background. We encountered two CC on our side, a male chap who whilst not delivering bad service was somewhat aloof, and a very friendly female crew member who helped out with the dinner service and took time to chat to us about our trip when she brought out puddings. Sadly we saw more of the former chap on the flight.

This was only our third UC leg, and we've never had any interaction with an FSM on any flights so far, so I'm not sure if this is the norm BTW.

Most of the passengers around us appeared to be Americans, with one or two fitting the rather stereotypical 'LA type' mould. Some were rather offhand with the CC too, which I thought was poor form. The passenger in 2D took a couple of sleeping pills before take-off, then crashed out until about 90 minutes before landing when the CC suggested he might like to eat and drink something. He then promptly devoured two Graze burgers and a huge portion of afternoon tea :?

We ate together at 2A, and I enjoyed my meal. I can't remember what it was (and no explanation was given by the CC) but the amuse bouche didn't really amuse my bouche. To quote mdvipond the Tomato soup was 'warm and gloopy' and tasted suspiciously like the Covent Garden brand. The main was Thai Curry (I think) which was very nice. Pudding was a very yummy chocolate and caramel pudding. The table runner did seem a bit of a faff so I can see why that has been dispensed with. I didn't see a cheese trolley at any point, so not sure what happened there.

After dinner we returned to our seats and did a bit of reading etc. Nothing much on the IFE grabbed my attention, but I did watch a great documentary called 'Closer to the Edge' about the Isle of Man TT later in the flight.

The bar wasn't frequented by many other passengers, but we did sit there for a while. Sadly no CC came by for a chat.

We both managed an hour or so of snoozing in bed mode before afternoon tea. The trolley did seem a bit of a faff, as did the cake stand construction. However the sarnies, cakes and scones were more than passable.

Landing to a sunny LAX was pretty much on time, and we hot-footed it off to immigration. Unfortunately there were the last few passengers from an Air China flight still clearing, so it took around 40 minutes to get through. Our bags were already piled up on the floor next to the carousel when we got through.

It was then off to the Holiday Inn Express for a snooze before our Seattle flight with Virgin America the next day.

In conclusion, a good flight in the very comfortable environment of VS Upper Class. The crew were a reasonable bunch, but I would have given them a bang average 3* rating had it not been for the friendly lady I mentioned above.

:D People who can do this fascinate me...

Personally I don't think it really matters whether you see the FSM. What matters is what kind of a ship they run. I've experienced visible ones who were uninterested, and totally invisible ones who were old-style governesses.
