Car was waiting at 0615 and we were at a deserted check in by 0630: bags tagged, boarding cards issued, a miserable seq 9 and 10, and up in the lift to the magic door. Security was equally quiet and we were in duty free in minutes. Spot of shopping before we arrived at the CH just as it was opening. Must have been around 12 or 14 people waiting fopr the shutters to rise including a couple who had Y tickets and were politely redirected to Number 1 lounge.
Clubhouse breakfast and a read of the papers whilst Mrs A had a quick hair treatment then off to gate 20 for a painless boarding. Settled in to 8A and 9A, champagne offered which I declined but Mrs A acccepted: she loves the stuff, I can't stand it.
Flight pushed back on schedule and off we went to join the queue for 27L: airborne within 20 minutes in to a realtively cloudless sky.
Food orders taken and pre lunch drinks served, I went for the pea soup followed by the beef: Mrs A also had the soup but had the ravioli. The soup wasn't good: pretty taasteless with tinned peas floating, or more correctly sinking, in it. Nowhere near as good as the tomato and lentil from ourlast trip. My beef was surprisingly good for an airplane meal although the report for 8A was that the ravioli was tasteless.
Watched a movie, coaughgt a few winks, read my book, visited the bar, but with a lack of staff there it was pretty much help yourself or go without.
Afternoon tea came round about 90 mins out of JFK: Isettled for just the tea but Mrs A had a couple of sandwiches, which were "nothing special"; the delightful CC looking after us, a Geordie lass, made all the difference though.
Landed 7hrs 20 mins after departure and immigration was a breeze. Out to our Dial7 car within 35 minutes and in Times Square before 2pm.
The FSM was visible throughout the flight and introduced herself to all the UC cabin: lovely touch.
All in all a very good experience, soup apart:-)
Back on the 18 next week but for now it's back to my sunbed, the pool and the warm Caribbean; Trip report on DL464 JFK to MBJ to follow.
