Checked following morning as to which aircraft was on its way on VS7 and it was A346 G-VWIN Lady Luck. Arrived at LAX in plenty of time having returned the car back to Alamo. Check in staff were excellent and security very quiet so that within 10 mins we were in the ANZ Koru lounge. Taking a window seat we were in time for the arrival of VS7.
When called we went down to gate only to find a gathering as they were still loading the assistance passengers but soon on board and settled in 9A & 10A. It is 6 years since our first Upper trip and that was on an A346. Since then all our trips have been on either the LHR or LGW 747's. I was surprised at the difference in space between the 2 aircraft and the 346 felt quite cramped.
We backed off the gate early and with flying time of 9 hrs 51 mins expected early in to Heathrow. Upper Class was full and the load was 239 so there was obviously space further back. On departure we turned left giving us a good view over Long Beach.
Crew were very good and the FSM introduced herself and her crew but, unlike our outbound trip, did not come around the cabin at all. The only time we spoke to her was when she was laying the tables for dinner.
Starter Menu was Potato & Leek soup, Mesclun salad or Seared scallops. I had the salad.
Main courses were Seared fillet of beef, Shrimp & cabbage colcannon, Agnolotti pasta with artichoke and cheese or Chicken Caesar salad. I chose the beef which was beautiful. Accompanied by a nice Chilean Carmenere.
Puddings were either Chocolate lava cake or Salted caramel cheesecake. I had the cheesecake.
Otherwise flight was uneventful and we arrived in Heathrow about 20 mins early. We then had a 6 hour layover before our Little Red flight up to Manchester but that's on a separate report
