In the morning got to check in about 7.45 no-one in front of us for Upper check in. A PE counter became free so we were called over. Checked in quickly, no fast track due to the security issues at present [n]Check in was efficient but 'bland' so I've marked this as average. Queues for security seemed long, but flowed quite quickly, took us about 20 minutes to get through then straight to the Clubhouse.
My friend's parents were flying to MCO today as well on VS27 so I'd arranged for them to join us as guests in the Clubhouse. I'd forgotten what it is like to experience it for the first time, they thought it was fantastic. Between us we had an assortment of breakfasts, my favourite is definately the Classic, smoked Salmon and surperb scrambled eggs, washed down with champagne - what a way to start a journey!Had the 'Bubble and Feet' treatment, which is really great before a long haul flight.
We were called for boarding just after 12.00 and set off for gate 21 (a nice change, just a short walk, compared to the normal trek to the satellite!)and were boarded as soon as we got there.
Settled into our Suites (7 A & K) My Fav is row 6 but they'd already gone, never mind. Champagne served and shortly afterwards pushed back and on our way.
Upper was full and FSM came round and introduced himself and confirmed that there were only 99 passengers on board, I've never known it that quiet!
More champagne and crisps and OB amenity kits (my prayers were answered!)and then food orders taken.
I had the Tomato Soup (was asked to change as they hadn't loaded enough soup !!)with warm cheese bread, yummy! followed by the lamb shank, delicious and then really lovely vanilla ice cream and hot chocolate sauce. James had the salad and the thai green curry which he though was OKish!
We both sat thinking that we recognised the guy in seat 10k and realised that it was Nick Faldo.
Watched the DaVinci code which was a bit disjointed (maybe that's 'cos I kept dozing!!) and Over the hedge along with a some of the comedy shows, Catherine Tate and Little Brittain (very funny)
Afternoon tea was a selection of sandwiches and a scone with clotted cream and jam, which was delicious and there were other cakes but I couldn't eat any more! The cabin crew on the flight were superb and couldn't do enough for us.
The route took us straight accross the Atlantic and as we crossed the coast we were told that we would have to circle for about 1/2 hour until a storm over the airport had moved on, after circling about 3 times (funny to see it on the sky map) we landed about 40 minutes late. Straight off the plane into a very empty immigration hall. Baggage came through within minutes and even though I was expecting security to be tougher in MCO it was really straightforward and we were through the airport and into a taxi in no time at all.
Yet again another fantastic Upper flight, It was great to experience aftersome of the recent reports and cutbacks!
