It was nice to see that the check-in staff were enforcing the current hand baggage restrictions and making people repack as needed [^] as some were clearly taking the proverbial. One was told he must have been on Mars not to have known the new restriction [oo]
The lines at security were longer than normal but not unexpectedly and not excessive and once through, off to the Clubhouse to relax.
The last time I visited the Clubhouse was while the work was still going on and the finished product was a joy to behold. Prior to today I had emailed the Cowshed to book a hair cut etc. but had not had a reply and the phone never got answered when I called so wasn't surprised that they had no booking for me. Still, the offered to squeeze me in if there was a no-show. By now the need for food was pressing and scrambled egg and smoked salmon was ordered, and yes, you guessed it, barely had it arrived than a space was open for me to get the barnet done. I apologise if anyone saw me shovelling food in with undue haste.[:#]
Following the cut I set about exploring the Clubhouse and took a walk up to the garden. Imagine my surprise to find a Jaguar parked up there! Even more surprised to find no dents or scratches on it. I watched the ballet playing out below me for a while before the fumes got to me and headed inside again. The skylounge appeared to have been taken over by a large group who were holding a meeting and giving dark looks to anyone who wandered in, cue me taking several trips [}:)].
After a bit of browsing the web and more drinks the flight was called but would be about 20 minutes late. Wandered off to the gate and was quickly through the door and settled in 8K. After the usual wait for the slow coaches we were away pretty much on time.
I was very surprised when a family settled into the cabin and I have to admit to having a dread of the next 10 hours, but the two children were impeccably behaved for the whole flight, whether this was normal or the threat of eviction at 38000' I don't know.
Lunch was soon on the way and I settled for the soup and lamb shank, which I made a right mess of (me and boned meat don't mix) all washed down with a rather good Chilean Cabernet. Up to now I had avoided the temptation of V-Port but could no longer last. I thought I would watch Da Vinci Code to see what the fuss was all about. I am so gald I didn't pay to see it in a cinema as it was the bigest load of tripe I have watched in ages. V for Vendetta was much better, darkly funny in places.
The cabin crew were absolute stars during the flight, making sure everyone was comfortable without fussing. Managed to get my grotty nails sorted out by the IFBT.
We arrived slightly early and UC were let off first, leaving one of the cabin crew with my copy of Air Babylon for her stop over. Shame an Air New Zealand flight had arrive just in front of us as Immigration was packed. off to find my connection to Las Vegas.
Overall and excellent flight and proof that children can use the cabin without treating it as a playground.
Return trip to follow..........
Thanks
