A flying visit to Las Vegas via LAX was on the cards. After a relaxing night stay at the Hilton Metropole, including free cocktails at their monthly 'theme' night, it was a relatively early start to get the HEX to LHR. Made our way through the buidling site that is Terminal 3 and to the Upper Class check-in. Bit of a queue, but overall not too bad. We had booked in Premium in the sale but had only been able to get middle seats on the plane. At check-in we were asked if we wanted to upgrade and were quoted 1199 each - little bit steep. We asked about window/aisle or bulkhead seats, but they had already gone, even though we were there nearly 3 hours before the flight! It later transpired that the bulkhead seats were on sale for 75 each and not actually yet taken.

Got to fast track only to be told 'no sticker, no fast-track' [V]- however the supervisor agreed that this wasn't the case, so we were allowed through. After picking up the essentials made our way to the Clubhouse and settled down for some breakfast. Then popped by the conceirge desk to ask about the options for upgrading, including miles and cash. The VERY nice lady behind the desk agreed that it was rather expensive, but she would 'see what she could do'. Popped off for my facial and half-way through called to the conceirge desk. Not that easy with a face wrap on, so the therapist got someone to pop over to see what they wanted. A few minutes later a smiling face popped round and told me 'it was very good news!'. After the facial popped over, to receive a very nice purple boarding card and the thought of a very relaxing flight to LAX!![:D]

Called a little early from the lounge as there was a huge queue trying to get into the boardin gate lounge, but one employee then peeled off for Upper Class passengers. Once through wallked straight onto the plane and settled into 16A, my home for the next 12 hours or so. Immediately greeted and offered champagne 'of course' and asked if I knew how to work the seat. Bagged myself a sleep suit before take off, so that I could have a little snoozed later on. Left a little early surprisingly and settled back for take off.

vPort took a little while to start, but once up and running straight into the entertainment with no intro film. Whilst waiting for it to start slipped into my sleep suit, as I have the tendency to spill lunch over myself whilst flying. Drinks very soon after take-off with dry roasted peanuts - a real treat on a plane. Drinks replenished when they were running out without having to ask - the crew on this flight were superb and the FSM was seen throughout the flight wandering around, serving meals, chatting to passengers, getting drinks and generally helping out the crew. Definitely the way to lead the crew and as a result the flight was really good!!!

Menu - my choices
Haddock pate with pepper biscuits

Square Company steak and mushroom pie, mashed potato, mushy peas and gravy

Treacle tart and cream

Cheese and biscuits

The food was excellent, hot and tasty and well presented!![:)]. I can't remember what the wine was, but it was French and really rather good.

Although it was a long flight, took the opportunity to get in 4 films, had a rejuvenating hand and nail treatment and a little snooze!

Later in the flight there was afternoon tea - I didn't have the sandwiches as I had been a little peckish early in the flight (despite lunch) and had the mini beef and onion burgers with spicy tomato relish - yum!![^] However the scone with cream and jam and the fairy cake with hundreds and thousands were just too tempting to resist.[:I]

Overall a really excellent flight to LAX, especially with the complimentary upgrade on the day! The crew were superb and the FSM a real example of how to lead the crew during a long flight.
