Had a car pick us up @ 7AM. Wanted to take full advantage of the clubhouse this time @ LHR. Very impressed with the new drive-thru check-in. Its pretty much like a lobby, not very many people checking in at the same time, just us and maybe four to five other passengers.

The new security channel is fantastic. We were pretty much the only ones in line and it was extremely convenient to use. After stopping off at V.A.T. Refund, we headed towards the clubhouse. After not taking the opportunity last time to spend a lot of time there last time I visited, I decided to go all out, having a haircut, steam shower, as well as breakfast.

After going to Gate 35 (part of the newly refurbished part of T3 supposedly), we boarded Surfer Girl. I was in 6K, so I didnt really have the awkward position of looking at someones feet during the flight.

Lunch/Dinner was great, had the lemon, spinach, and ricotta cappelletti, which was pretty good, followed by raspberry ripple ice cream. I watched The Kite Runner, which is an excellent film. I had read the book, so I was rather pleased to see it on v-port, which was working perfectly today. Slept for a good four hours, utilizing the ear plugs for once as the gentleman sitting next to me was snoring quite loudly. Prior to this the FSM came round and introduced herself.

Had several glasses of water at the bar, talked to the Upper Class CSS, who was quite informative and actually knew another CSSs whos a friend of mine.

Cabin crew overall were great, and were all very attentive and professional. Apparently they were short-staffed by one person, but they nevertheless made up for it in the quality of their quality of service.

This aircraft had different (thinner) tables, which are quite nice compared to the ones usually found in J. Is this new?

As Ive done the LAX-LHR and LHR-LAX route many times, one thing Ive just noticed is that on the LAX-LHR routes, they give you socks with purple toes, but on the way back, you get a pair with red toes.

Overall better service than my previous TR, but nothing extraordinary happened to make this trip 'stick out'... It was enjoyable.... but it wasn't like other flights I've had with Virgin in the past...

One word of advice to those traveling in J in the future, TAKE ADVANTAGE of the CLUBHOUSE AT HEATHROW... it's totally worth it, and you'll be glad you did.

Thanks for the report. As we are doing this route first time in J in 4 months time it good to read up on it. Oh, and, yes the clubhouse will be made good use of.

i'm doing this flight in 3 weeks my time, my 1st ever time in UC (don't know how you get that link thing to work!!)

i'm going with my wife who is a nervous take offer/ lander so she doesn't like the idea of side seats, we have booked 22d & g as they appear to be quite close together, would you recommend these - btw it's supposed to be a 747 - type 4 config

Last time I flew this route on a 747 type 4, I was in the A section... I would have liked to have been in the B section in order to avoid traffic and the IFBT... so yes, I think you're pretty much all set... You're not too far away from the loo and you're pretty close to a galley (to the front) and the bar (to the back)....

Now regarding these 'non-side' seats... again it's all personal preference... there will be a wall between you and your wife...

This isn't the right forum to ask questions about 'which ones are the best seats'... ask a guru for a more elaborate answer... but this is what I can tell you without pissing off any moderators who'll want to merge threads...

Purple toes=night flight, red toes=day flight.

Please, don't ask me why...[:)]
