I had to move my ticket up by a week on less than 24 hours notice as my grandmother passed away. At the airport the staff at the ticketing desk was very helpful in getting the change fees sorted and giving me the information I would need to claim a refund of the change fees due to bereavement on my return.
The flight was uneventful and I dont really remember much about it, because I was, as expected, a bit preoccupied. PE was absolutely full and I do remember thinking I was lucky to have gotten a seat on that flight.
We landed in a very very very hot JFK and the one thing I do remember is that it took ages to deplane. There was a problem with the jetway and as it was explained to us the person manning the jetway was a trainee and the jetway was off by a foot. We had to wait for someone from the Port Authority to come and align the jetway so we could deplane.

I boarded early and priority boarding was in place. Of note, I have not seen this before, but police officers were on the jetway checking passports a few feet before the aircraft entrance. I wonder if they were looking for someone specific.
A drink and sleepsuit were offered right away. The cabin filled up and we pushed back from the gate a few minutes early at 7:36pm. We took the usual drive around JFK and were wheels up at 8:16pm with a flight time of 5hours and 51minutes announced. I had some salad as I hadnt eaten in the CH and was hungry.
I find this flight difficult to sleep on and prefer the later flight, but miles upgrade seats had not been available on VS 10 when I booked the ticket. It is just too early to be tired after being on NY time for 2.5 weeks. Also, my seat was not well situated as I could hear chatting from the galley throughout the night. I must have fallen asleep at some point, however, as when I woke up we had just about 1 hour to go.
We landed early which meant a remote stand. The arrivals hall was an absolute mess with the lines spilling out of the hall and down the corridor. Fortunately there was no one at Iris so I breezed through just in time to see my bag coming out onto the carousel. I found the car MrStars had sent for me and I think I was in the carpark before some people had even made it from the plane to the terminal.
I arrived home a couple hours before the in-laws were due to arrive from Denver, which after 2.5 weeks of being away, as well as having left on such short notice, is why Ive been absent from V-flyer for a while. I am just now recovering from it all!
