First TR and apologies if it is a bit long! Myself and my girlfriend decided that a short weekend in New York was needed as my credit cards were feeling very unloved! Left home in Stafford at the unearthly hour of 0330 for the drive to London. Parked and used the Heathrow Express for the short trip out of Paddington. Check in was very quiet with only 2 people in front of us and finished within 5 minutes with our orignal seats 21H and K. As we had plenty of time we decided to have a quick look at T5 and I was quite impressed. Thought it was light, airy and well laid out with plenty of space. Once back in T3 we were through security very quickly despite not being given a fast-track pass. Flight was advertised as the dreaded Gate 42 which felt as though I was walking all the way to JFK! Prority boarding was in place, enforced and actually worked! Interior of the aircraft (Lady Luck) was in pretty good condition and captain advised a flight time of 7 hours as we were being served our bubbly. Pushed back about 10 minutes early and were in the air very quickly by LHR standards. Take off was quite bumpy as thick cloud and quite windy so seat belt signs stayed on for a lot longer than usual. Breakfast served quickly and no matter how many times I travel, I am still so disappointed with the breakfast service in Y and PE. Think something really needs to be done about it as simply not good enough, especially if travelling PE. V-port was playing up and mine needed 2 resets before it would work, once working though I was reminded of how superior it is compared to Nova and Odyssey which I am used to. There was very little sign of the FSM throughout the flight and crew in general seemed rather lacklustre. Dinner was served after around 4 hours and was edible but nothing special. I had the sausage and mash and my girlfriend had the chicken piccata with fettucine which she enjoyed. Landed in JFK around 35 minutes early and immigration and the airport in general was very quiet. Bags were out quickly and we were in a taxi on our way to Manhattan about 25 mins after landing.

Thanks for the TR. Good to see priority boarding working as it should at LHR, let's hope VS can maintain it!

Thanks for that Dan - if you think that's long you haven't read too many reports - the more prose the merrier around here :) Nice to hear that priority boarding worked but what a trek to board! We landed last night and disembarked at 40 or 42 - quite a schlep!

Airports can really catch you out. If you take a flight out of LHR T1 going to a non-passport controlled, but customs controlled destination the walk seems to go on forever. I boarded a plane not far from a VS A340 over in T3!
