After my day of annual leave in San Fran, where I had a very personalised walking tour of The Castro on the morning of my flight home – it was time me and the guide, it was time to head out to the airport. I was stopping at the Hilton Financial District, which actually is a pretty nice hotel – I got a room on the second to top floor, with huge windows overlooking the bay and Alcatraz. The cheapest rate when I booked was a “romance package” which included chocolate dipped strawberries, a bottle of bubbles and full buffet breakfast in the lounge. In the end I decided to get a taxi to the airport as it was really hot and the BART was a bit a walk from the hotel – the hotel town car service was the same price as a regular taxi, and so opted for the latter.

The airport was fairly busy when I got there, but VS desks were empty and so I dropped bag off and headed via the airport museum to the Clubhouse. I was early – but definitely wasn’t the first person there. One thing that has started to annoy me, is the number of people who use Skype in lounges and talk very loudly, particularly annoying when the internet connection kept on dropping. I grazed on a number of different things from the menu and had a few drinks whilst doing some work – time seemed to fly by!

The inboard flight was a bit late and then there were delays in boarding – no one seemed to have an idea when boarding would be started.....there was a gradual drift of people heading to the gate. Finally the flight was called, and I headed off to the gate. Boarded to an Upper Class cabin which was fairly well boarded by the time I got there. Some issues with luggage space, but enough for me to store my stuff luckily right above my head. Champagne came around and I looked through what films were on offer – unfortunately as I had decided to head back later it was an A340-300 and not the one with vPort ! The mum next to me was trying to explain to her children that whilst it was business that it didn’t have on demand entertainment and there was not much suitable for them. I envisaged a disturbed night on the flight, but actually they were quiet and entertained throughout the flight.

Left gate about 15 minutes late and a short taxi to one of the shorter parallel runways near the terminal, rather than the longer ones further away. Odd that two planes take off in parallel almost at the same time. Once in the air, drinks orders were taken along with dinner orders. I had Cream of leek soup with toasted croutons, pan-roasted free-range chicken breast stuffed with truffled mushrooms served with crushed red skin potatoes and broccoli with chilli and garlic and finished with warm bread and butter pudding with Chantilly cream. Again the dessert was the best course in my opinion....and I am normally a savoury person. The cheese trolley did come around and I wondered why is there no chutney on the flights to London? Brief visit to the bar, where several things were “out of stock” – unlike the outbound, at least they had plenty of US red wine this time!

Managed to get a decent amount of sleep on this flight – the benefit of leaving a little bit later, meant I was more tired. Woke just as they were finishing serving breakfast, and so I managed to get some juice and fruit. Have to say I wasn’t that hungry really. Landed about 30 minutes early and luckily was through immigration fairly quickly, grabbed bag and headed off to HEX. The only problem about the later flight is that it is too late to be able to get into the Revivals lounge, having said that I probably would have just headed straight home as I wanted to miss the rush hour.

All in all a good flight and like the outbound, the food was of a much higher standard than VS used to provide – keep it up!!

Great TR, I did the 42 a few weeks back and was lucky with an A346. The timing is good but you do get home later in the day!

Thanks for the TR y)

I could not agree more y) y) VS, if you do read this TR - which is very complementarty of your service delivery - do take note of the point I have highlighted and re-think the Aeromobile folly n(

Maybe your outbound flight was late in as the passengers needed time to empty the bar :w :w

Thanks for the TR and totally agree about Skype in the lounge y)

I don't want to listen to entire business meetings during the day or long and loud goodnight chats to Partners or children in the evening. And for the record kissing a screen looks very silly :$
