As the day got closer I thought it would be nice to do the dtci so enlisted the help of another friend Keith to drive us down on sat morning ,Keith very kindly said we could go in his car but to be honest the thought of arriving at the dtci in an s reg ford escort didn't appeal to me so I got him insured on mine instead ,so dtci booked all I had left to do 8 days out was tell the wife which I did via text whilst half cut ( brave aren't I).
So the morning of the 23rd arrived and so did the snow again, was a bit worried about getting down to LHR so picked gav and Keith up about 7.15 am and got to dtci about 8.30 am where we waited behind another vehicle for a couple of minutes ,having not done it before I didn't know how long I should be waiting but after another minute or two a virgin employee came to my window to inform me a car was stuck on or in the bollards or the ramp ? He then asked what flight I was on and when I told him he had a little laugh to himself ,when asked what was so funny he said your very early aren't you !
Anyway we had to drop off outside the terminal instead ,waved Keith off in my pride and joy and into the terminal we went.
About a five minute wait at check in / bag drop ( checked in night before ,a pathetic seq 41/42 ) and into the lift .
Straight through the private security Chanel and am now getting excited as I know the stairway to heaven will soon be climbed and I'm also excited to see what gav makes of the CH ,showed gav around before we had some breakfast ,had a good few drinks and then made contact with v- flyer Ryan who we shared a couple of drinks with and talked about all things virgin and aviation while gav looked on bemused , had a nice massage ,well it was nice for me but the girl said rubbing my shoulders was like rubbing a brick !
Gav had a foot treatment( pity the girl that done that ) had a couple more drinks ( had first redhead) and boarding was called about 2.15 .
I was welcomed on board by name and a nice to see you again which I thought was great.
Settled in to seat and waited and waited ,some sort of delay but wasn't bothered really .
Whilst we waited the menus were bought round followed by a couple of glasses of champers ,finally took off at 16.00 and had a great flight again, had duck for starter followed by chicken which was really tasty and bread and butter pudding for desert,
Had to ask for cheese and port as I didn't think I was going to get it otherwise but only a minor blip, attentive crew who seemed intent on getting rid of all the white wine on board to the point where I had to refuse in the end, shocking I know!
I felt much drowsiness after dinner so flipped the seat over and off to the land of nod for a couple of hrs .
Woke just in time for afternoon tea, wasn't really hungry but well it would be rude not to wouldn't it ?
Didn't even manage a trip to the bar ( I know joey I know)
The captain said we would be braking quite heavy due to landing on a short runway but it didn't feel much different to be honest ,from wheels down to having a fag was about 20 /25 mins ,straight through immigration and cases waiting which is impressive .
All in all a great flight
