Just a short TR to report on my first experience of Little Red to make up for missing out on the inaugural flight down from Machester back in March that I unfortunately had to miss out on.

After trekking acros London for 2 hours via public transport, I make it to Heathrow Terminal 1 by 7:30 and although I had done online check in the day before (only achieving Seq11 n( ) I presented myself at the desk (the priority desk being fully occupied by a large family) and was quickly attended to - albeit that I had to remind home to issue an invitation to the Sevisair Lounge.

Quite impressed by the security at Terminal 1 which was soon navigated and into the airside plaza which is a huge improvement on what I remember from some 3 years ago y)

The Sevisair Lounge is at the opposite end of the Terminal to the Domestic gates so I made sure I gave myself plenty of time to get back ): The lounge was much smaller that I was expecting and was quite full even at that time of the morning (pre 8am). Nevertheless I was able to find a seat and take some refreshment and check on E Mails etc before setting off back. Good job I had given myself plenty of time as there is a queue for Boarding pass checks before proceeding to the Gates. After this checkpoint I noticed that both BA and Aer Lingus have lounges here and it struck me that Virgin were missing a trick here. God forbid sharing with BA, but surely something could be set up with the latter.

It only seemed like moments after taking my seat in the Gate area that priority boarding was called precisely as scheduled at 8:50 and being Au, I was one of the first to board

Welcomed at the door by name y) y) I took my seat and was grateful I had opted for 2A when I had booked as 2C was already taken and sure enough thee was a vacant seat the entire flight :D

Then began the wait. It would seem that there had been massive delays in Terminal 3 Immigration that morning (I overheard one disgruntled US passenger remark that it had taken over 2 hours :0 ) and as a consequence of having to wait for these transferring passengers push back was an hour later than scheduled. A relatively quick taxi (by Heathrow standards) where I was able to see both the new BA A380 and Concorde we were soon on our way

The crew quickly went into action and service commenced. Despite a knowing grin from the FSM when asking what I would like to drink I opted for coffee (wish I hadn't ) and it being a post breakfast flight a large cookie.

Being Catain Sensible, I has placed my phone on Flighht Safe mode and listened to my music for the 55 minute flying time. Arrived in Edinburgh only 15 minutes late and at least the ground crew there can get the airbridge attached far quicker that at Heathrow

Only a short wait for the bags - although it did seem strange that only one carousel was being used for every single arrival into Edinburgh at that time so it was a bit of a scrum getting my bag.

With plenty of time on my hands I opted for the Express Bus into Edinburgh which at £3.50 is a bargain

All in all, Virgin have a good product here and if connection is the name of the game, by what I saw, it is looking good for them

Should have told them it was revenme for all the delays we have in getting into the US (and revenge for 1776 as well of course!)

Would it be worth VS getting its own lounge given the plan to close and demolish T1 by the end of next year?

Not really, buns, as the Aer Lingus lounge would be miles away in the ROI departure area near gate 86 (I think). I'm not sure where Little Red departs from but it would be from the domestic area and I don't think there's any direct connectivity between the two.

HL

Thanks for the clarification y)

I merely saw the sign on the left hand side as I walked to Gate 8 and presumed the Lounge was nearby.

If I recall correctly, it looks like BA have taken what was the BMI Lounge

Thanks for the TR Buns :)

There must surely be some space in the domestic wing for a lounge somewhere as there's what used to be the BA Terraces lounge (which I think has now closed) as BA now use what was the BMI lounge (which is also huge and on 2 floors and was always way under-used when it was a BMI lounge).

Thanks for the TR! You finally made it on Little Red! ^)

I don't think the Servisair Lounge is really worth it, and the area around Gate 8 is just lovely. Mug of coffee at Costa and plane spotting - what more could you ask for?!

Sealink, I'm with you there!

Anyway, as LR will be in T2 in about 12ish months, investing in a lounge is not likely.

T2 will make T5 look old, and remember, it was designed in the bmi days with very efficient domestic facilities. By even at T2, I still can't envisage a lounge (owing to the three year contract, hoped co-location etc.) so let's all hope for a No.1 Traveller!

Thanks for the TR Buns. I hope I can experience a Little Red flight soon.

You're right about BA using the bmi lounge which is conveniently located close to the gates.

i agree that Gate 8 area is a lot nicer than your average gate area. I remember when it was an exclusively BMI area & it was all nicely done up.

Seems like there's a policy of holding Little Reds for their transferring long haul PAX, understandable I suppose & that's the price VS are paying for having to make do with a separate terminal. Makes me wonder why they couldn't have a similar arrangement to that with the inbound Little Reds & bus their transfers into T1 for immigration?

Because of Border Control. There is no way of knowing who on a domestic fight, has come from an international one. Even going through Flight Connections, you still go through Border Control

Buns, thanks for a great TR and I am pleased all went well. The lounge issue is a sore one. The servisair lounge is too far away for the effort and its not the best. I agree that the area around Gate 8 is much better..... Welcome to the LR club.

Joeyc, you should hold your head in shame...... ): n( :w
