Our earlier trip in May, again ex Glasgow was fine and by that I mean good but a little lacking in the usual Virgin flair that you become accustomed to over the years. ( we've been very lucky with our flights over the last few years and really haven't had any issues that I can remember ) so I was hoping this one would make up for the missing sparkle.
Again, there was a choice of dates and plenty of G availability (which given the recent activities might be a worry for the future flights) although the rest of the plane was bursting and infact they were upgrading people in economy into premium.
I decided to go along the economy M route to boost the tier points and miles because over the last few years I seem to have had no problems spending miles and they have become quite depleted. Of course the upgrade means the flight hasn't posted automatically but strangely enough the miles booster points have ( the 25% bonus was too much to refuse

Anyways, onto the flight.
It was a very relaxed drive up from the Borders, looking at all the progress with the re opening of the Waverley line into Edinburgh, no issues on the bypass and no real problems on the M8 to the airport. It seems like many journeys, a few minutes difference in the start time can make all the difference.
All this meant I really arrived far too early remembering of course that the lounge at Glasgow is a little on the "bland" side. Check in was very quick, straight through the priority security channel and after a quick bite to eat, into the lounge. It having the usual soup and crackers option which was a little less than was required.
I'm surprised the Virgin don't have an arrangement with Emirates to use their lounge especially as you have to walk round past it to get to the gate. However, it is what it is. The bonus being the nice if a little foggy views of the apron and runway.
The gates at Glasgow probably weren't designed for jumbos and infact if there were 2 or even 3 in the same area it would be total chaos, however the crew did their best to position everyone in the relevant space before boarding was announced. Opposite us was a Thompson Dreamliner, I think the 800 version which looked very small in comparison. Interestingly enough also parked next to the Dreamliner was an airport fire tender which I guess wouldn't have been the first time, but might have seemed a little unnerving

Anyways, we boarded pretty quick and had hardly sat down when the 1st glass of champagne was offered of the day. Lanson white label

The crew were all from Scotland and after chatting to the FSM it seems they all like to ask for the Glasgow flights

She also mentioned that it was very full down the back and that it looked like a very busy flight even though there was only 7 in upper.
After another top up or maybe even 2, it was time to go and all of a sudden we were in the air and it was time for another drink or two with a few of the little bowls of crisps being replenished with even asking

It's strange how, you know this is going to be not only a good flight, but a great flight.
There is a new menu, which is supposedly only for the VS 071,073,075,077 and 085 but I don't suppose it will be much different to the rest of the LGW, MAN departures

I had the soup - delicious, couldn't decide for a main between the steak and the Caesar salad, was offered both

A massive 10 out of 10 for the catering. I would have liked to try the salad but was stuffed

Glasses were kept topped up but after the 1st film decided to go onto tea as was driving at the other end. After the second cup, was offered a mug which was great and like the rest of them very hot which is always a bonus as sometime Virgins tea can be a little lukewarm.
Tea being picked as the little tube hadn't been loaded or couldn't be found for the cappuccino maker but if that's all we had to worry about, it wasn't an issue.
A little snooze was in order and infact most of the cabin converted their seats into bed mode and all to soon it was time for afternoon tea.
Again, copious amounts of food were offered and all were very fresh and tasty.
It was soon time to get ready for landing and on arrival were told to proceed a little quickly to immigration as the Manchester jumbo was only 10 mins behind us - a nice touch
Landed around 4.20 and was through immigration, bags collected, car collected from Dollar and out the airport by 5 past 5

A great flight, lead in our cabin by a great FSM and yes the sparkle was back.
Well done Virgin !
Thanks for reading and excuse any weird spelling or words by blaming it on apples auto correct.
