After 3 weeks in Orlando it was time to come home. This may be our last trip here for a while but we managed to cram a lot in - even getting a preview ticket for the new Epic Universe Park. Oh dear Universal! Who thought it was a good idea to have only surface parking with no transport to the gate and no shade or moving walkways for the walk in. We were knackered before we started! The park itself is quite good but I can see it having lots of queues at the rides.

We were due to come back on VS136 (A350) and as usual I was checking the inbound aircraft to make sure they were on time. Soul Rebel (our ride out) was indeed on schedule coming in from MAN. We returned the hire car and headed over to an empty check in line for PE. I can never sleep on the flight so didn’t see the point in spending more points/cash for UC.

The gate was reasonably well managed with people being called by group and an agent standing holding a sign for the relevant group and asking those not in it to sit down so that there wasn’t the normal scrum. Of course, nobody did sit down so when Group 2 was called we had to fight our way through them all.

The cabin was full with as was Upper with 391 on board. 27A and C for us this time which was fine. We taxied out on time, got to the front of the queue to be next in line to takeoff and then sat for 10 minutes. Captain came on to say that one of the crew was unwell and he was waiting for advice from medical staff to see if we could go or would need to go back to the gate to offload the crew member. After 25 minutes it was back to the gate where the poor guy left pretty quickly but by the time we had topped the fuel tanks again, we were 1 hour late leaving. Crew were already down by 1 and now it was 2 but they did well and we didn’t notice any delays with the service.

No preorder available for us but the fish was excellent for dinner with a decent sized piece of fish.

As usual I didn’t sleep so when breakfast came out I had the full English which was fine.

Flight time was 7 hours 58 minutes and we landed just over an hour late which helped us as we had booked a day room at the Sofitel which wouldn’t have been ready until 08:00. Patrick Egwu transfers had again subbed this transfer to Parker’s who were waiting for us. I had booked a mini van because we had 4 checked cases (the website forces you to do this when you state your luggage) but they had sent a small estate car and after putting some of the back seat down he managed to squeeze it all in. We were squeezed in as well as I am 6’3” and had to use the front seat which was as close to the dash as it could be. Not sure I’ll be using Patrick again.

Managed a few hours sleep before heading over to T5 for our BA flight back to Larnaca (which was also an hour late so not back in Cyprus until 03:00 with a 2 hour drive to follow.

I keep dreaming that VS will diversify and start flying to Cyprus. Oh well, we can all dream!

Thanks for the TR
Top Marks for the crew handing the understaff situation

We too are faced with not being able to pre-order and the VS hype of “don’t worry you won’t go hungry” doesn’t fill me with any confidence
