USA Opticians

Hi - I know things are generally much cheaper in the US compared to the UK - just wondering if this applies to specatcles?

I'll be in Fl in October with plenty of time on my hands to do all the shopping stuff, are there savings to be had or should i get them in the UK. I have my prescription.

ISTR, it is somewhat cheaper in the US to have spectacles made up. The present Mrs Treelo tried to avail herself of such a service during last Spring's jaunt to Florida only to find that the optician wanted a week to make the lenses and fit them to frames and we had only 4 days left there. I don't know if this timescale is pertinent to all lens manufacture - the present Mrs Treelo does have astigmatism and needs one lens to be thicker than the other - of if it is only needed for specific prescriptions. Why not check out the price in UK and take your prescription with you to the US and ask the same question of an optician there.

We got 2 new pairs of glasses for our eldest daughter when we were in Orlando in January, (she is always losing the damn things) I took along her perscription and got them done in Walmart of all places, they were great, we picked some frames and chatted to the optician then went and did some shopping - 45mins later they were ready [y]

2 pairs designer frames and lenses $160 [:)]

So why not ask your friendly WalMart optician to pop the existing lenses into suitably sized frames? Worth a try [:)]
