Okay, I'm not Black, and I'm not American, but today is a pretty amazing day, isnt it?.

I'm sat in a bar in Switzerland with 30/40 odd people crowded around a small television screen to watch the CNN footage of the inauguration (well, either that, or they're waiting for the footage of Bush boarding his flight home just to make sure he's gone [:D])

I'm sort of bored of the blanket coverage, but that's only because the significance of world events often passes me by.

Especially at the moment. How many times can a booking be retrieved, looked at, the seat allocations studied, and then closed again? [ii]

Dr King said he wouldn't get there with them but they would get to the mountain and he was right.

I am pleased for them just let today be the only day where colour actually is worthy of mention at all.

His speech was pretty good wasn't it.

I have noticed on forums that there are already pretty sneery 'good luck he'll need it' remarks from brits and even the british news reporters are typically negative...no wonder we are always in the doldrums.

I agree, lets just hope they concentrate on what he does and not his colour.

Well he does have a lot to do, he has 8 years of crap to clear up from Bush....[xx(]

Have a lot of merkin friends who supported bush and mcpalin...

They've all said that although they still don't support him, they hope he succeeds.

I hope he succeeds also. I think that Obama might actually be more important to the world than the USA itself

Politics and current affairs are one of my passions in life. So today has been a bit of a Sky News marathon viewing evening.

Excellent speech. I believe today will rank as one of those events that people will ask 'where were you when Obama became President'.

Am currently half way through his first book, written in 1993 a long time before he even thought about becoming President, and it is very good.

Good luck to him.

I have to confess to a viewing the whole thing through a rather cynical prism; he's a politician, he speaks in groups of three, and he isn't Martin Sheen.

That aside, it was heartening to see those pictures of Washington today, and it's good to have some hope in the world for a while.

Nothing makes me more excited than reading what non-Americans think about the American political process. At least you understand what's going on...most Americans probably think that Gordon Brown has a dog named Snoopy...

I was doing half-day daddy-day-care with Tizer yesterday, so found myself at home for the inauguration and decided to flick on the box and catch a bit of history.

However, my plans went ary when Tizer had a little accident. So, in years to come, when people as me 'Where were you when Obama was sworn in?', I'll answer: 'Cleaning my daughter's wee off the dining room carpet...'
