As a Brit living in the US for the past 6 years, I can tell you which health system I prefer - give me the NHS any day. This might be surprising to many Americans, especially as I have a good health insurance plan, paid for my employer. However, that insurance plan costs my employer $600 a month. In the past 4 years I have been to the doctor 3 times with minor ailments, which, even though the insurance company already gets $600 a month for me, still costs me $20 a time.

Last Christmas, I was back in the UK for a week visiting my family. My Dad and I both came down with a terrible cough, fever and other symptoms. I came back to the US, and several days later I was still just as bad, as was my Dad, in the UK. We both made Dr appointments, he got one the next day, I got one in 2 days. He told me his Dr said he had mild bronchitis, and prescribed antibiotics (which cost him standard prescription of what, $10ish). He was better 4 or 5 days later. I told my Dr what my Dad had been diagnosed with, and we both had identical symptoms. My Dr said it probably wasn't bronchitis, and prescribed me something to 'help my cough', which was unbearable. My prescription cost $70. It didn't help. 2 weeks later I was still coughing. I had paid $90 out of pocket and wasn't any better. My Dad in the UK paid $10 and was better.

My family or I have never had a problem with the NHS. I know many people here in the US who have had problems with healthcare.

In the news the other day was a story about a 2 year old girl refused health coverage because she was too small!! Another 4 month old toddler was refused coverage because he was too chubby! Any Republican want to stand up and try and justify that?

I personally know people in the US who have had to remortgage homes to pay for medical procedures that their insurance companies refused to cover.

A PriceWaterhouseCooper report indicated approximately $210bn a year is WASTED in the current US system through needless form filling out by doctors and insurance companies just for processing claims!

Now let us relate this discussion back to the OP. Fox 'News' is THE most biased 'news' organisation in this country. Period. Check out today's headlines. We have:

'Too much of a good thing? Public health plan could have huge advantage in market' which talks about how many businesses are excited by the prospect of being able to buy coverage for their employees from the govt at a lower cost, while having the same benefits. However, the article puts a negative slant on this by claiming the government option will be TOO good and may hurt private insurance companies!!! Boo hoo.

The next article is:

'Wake up America, YOU can still stop Obamacare' which starts with 'Americans are now bored of the healthcare debate....there is no way there never has been the most remote possibility that we can provide health care to tens of millions of Americans without it costing taxpayers money' So Fox, like a petulant little child, has decided that since it doesn't seem to be decisively winning this debate, it and it's viewers are now bored of it.

What most of the Fox audience of morons don't realise is that the current system already costs each taxpayer money. Just it isn't taken off them by the government. What difference does it make if my employer has to pay $600 a month for my health care and it goes to a private insurance company, or if it goes to the government. It makes not one difference to me. Republicans, and Fox, try to drill into the head of every American that taxes are evil. If it came to it, would I pay an extra couple of % tax, so that every American could have health care? Yes, of course I would.

On that, and a final note, I actually read a news article on the BBC today that made me smile, and think that maybe this world does have a chance:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/8321967.stm

Yes. A bunch of rich Germans are petitioning the government to pay HIGHER taxes. One guy said he had inherited a bunch of money 'he did not need'. How refreshing.
