We are absolutely shell-shocked by the news of the crash here in Cork. It is so sad and our thoughts are with the families of those who died. Those who survived are not reported to have life-threatening injuries and have been taken to Cork University Hospital which is the country's only Trauma 1 hospital.

I live about 30 miles to the west of the city, and although I left home in brilliant sunshine some 12 miles in from my journey I hit fog which got worse the nearer I got to the city. Part of my journey takes me along a road which is almost parallel to the runway although it can't be seen as it's over the brow of a hill. At this stage I was wondering what conditions would be like at the airport and whether aircraft such as Aer Arann's ATR72s would be able to land not realising that at almost that precise moment the crash was occurring. When I heard about the crash some 20 minutes later, that bit was really scary.

My way home takes me past the entrance to the airport. It was obvious that it was closed as cars were parked on both sides of the road outside the airport, including a bank of taxis. The police were inside only allowing people into the Business Park which is part of the airport complex. Mind you it could also have been because our PM was due to visit about then but I only heard that when I got home
