Having had a little think on this, it appears Ginger Beer, translates to Queer, A car or object could legitimately look Queer if it were different in an odd sort of way and one would have to mentally choose and ask oneself does he me mean Queer or Gay, and if he meant Gay why didn't he say it.
This illustrates my earlier point that on some level people can choose to feel offended or discriminated against, which just serves to invite more discrimination rather like waving your red flag in front of a bull or alternatively rainbow banner in front of a bigot.
If i were to feel hurt that someone used the word queer to describe an inaminate object then it should follow that I might myself feel that queer relates to me, which I don't.
The whole point of equality is that different groups be it gay, straight, men, women, race or religeons can go about their lives without anyone noticing the difference nor really being bothered by them. Harping on about all this PC stuff just serves to highlight
that you are different from others and should be noticed as such.
Its no big deal to be Gay and it really annoys me that other gays bang on all the time about Gay rights blah blah blah, everyone has got rights, marching around like Dame Edna on the streets and keeping your Radar up searching for reasons to be offended just makes it a bigger deal than it is.
Lets face a Hetro person really shouldn't have the slightest interest in Gay issues being that he isn't Gay, if he does have an interest
and goes out of his way to bang on about it then he will have issues of his own.
PC really is nothing to do with equality its just an excuse for people to say "How very dare you".
I had a best mate once, a right bruiser but so so funny, often he would make comments about queers and Gays, poofs, after a few years i got fed up and said have you not ever realised that your best mate, me, is Gay. He said he didn't realise that gay people could look straight and be a laugh, we stayed friends and I was best man at his wedding.
I bet Mr Clarckson actually does have gay mates some that he knows about and some that he doesn't. I still think he is a bit of a knob,
but for me, Gay, Queer...big deal, there are other words that really can offend that arn't said in jest.

As ever cogently and forcefully argued. I'd be in accord with most of this although I find
to be an unintentional hyperbole. If you had stated "until everyone viewed their sexual preferences as irrelevant as long as they were consensual" then it would have seemed more reasonable. 100% gay quotas will never go down well with non-gays.
PC is partially a convenient and much over-shortened "Debrett's Etiquette" for public pronouncements. Whilst "words are just words", the intention of the speaker combined with specific words can give cause for much offence. As reading intention is difficult in a number of media (fora specifically) the use of generic PC restrictions ensures that there are no misunderstandings. When people complain about PC some of the time they should bear in mind that some of the proscribed phrases or words are freely available for use at home or out with friends who know you well enough to know your intent.
There is much more to achieve and until the Prime Minister and the presidents of the NAACP, General Motors and/or the United States are gay

Indeed, chatting to the Deputy Manager of a very large Midlands Students Union it turns out they can no longer have an LGB (Lesbian, Gay & Bi-Sexual) society. Instead they have to have a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Undecided and Asexual and Friends society now!
