Yesterday we had a long Mod's meeting at which one of the topics of conversation was how we ought to react to OT football posts. Non football fans can sometimes find fan rhetoric somewhat inflammatory - however in a genuine attempt to extend the site's inclusive nature a decision has been taken to allow "genuine" football threads to remain as such and not be hampered by moderator comment.
There will be two exceptions to this general rule:-
Should a football thread be reported to the moderators as offensive the moderators reserve their right to act upon such complaint and reach a "reasonable" view on propensity to offend.
Any thread which uses football as a shill to launch thinly disguised ad hominems on other board members or socio-demographic groups will be moderated/locked down.
