In a mad fit of impulsiveness I popped down to my local ASDA and picked up a copy of Harry Potter at midnight. I say mad in the most appropriate sense, especially given I haven't read any of the other books. But I wanted to see what all the fuss was about, and I wasn't disappointed to see half of Reading snaking around the car park at 5 minutes to midnight when I turned up.

Still, the queue moved very briskly, and I was through the checkout within about 15 minutes - and best of all ASDA are knocking out the book (which has a cover price of £17.99) for the bargain price of a fiver.

Now, question is, should I read it... or wait for the movie? ;) [}:)]

Pete,

Read it! Well, you already know I'm a fan (have a feeling that I probably prattled on about it to no end at the Riverboat Social), so this is good news.

You must promise not to share any secrets, however, because I haven't bought my copy (US stores will start the mad rush in a few hours).

Madness, utter madness.

Although, as you're now a self-confessed HP freak, you could do us all a favour...

Read the book, give us the summary to save us all buying it (where applicable). Then go see the movie, and feed back on that too. [y]

Anything to keep cash away from that Rowling woman. [}:)]

Hey, what the heck, just read the last few pages, tell us who dies and we can all get on with our lives!

But she's only going to earn $1 billion off of this book. That's barely walking-around money, surely?

But, dammit, what would happen if I was downgraded from First Class to Coach on the Hogwart's Express?

Surely you would just expect them to conjure up another First Class coach, quite literally!

And I hear the amenity kit is CRAP! [n]

What, you mean it's not magic? You mean it doesn't contain Wendy Wisteria's Whizzo Wrinkle Remover? (Looks like moisturiser to the average Muggle...)

Just got in from stewarding the launch in Maidenhead. Flooded stores not withstanding, about 700 people there. All good fun and a surprising amount of very nice, sober totty too [y]

Finished reading the book the other day. Thoroughly good read it was, and I won't give away the ending!

Also saw the new Harry Potter film today (based on the fifth book 'The Order of the Phoenix'), very good too except its cut out more of the book than the first four movies put together and this was supposed to be based on the longest book in the series!!!

Why not peruse the Wikipedia article on the book, it will save a few people on here from being made public enemy number one by spoiling the ending? [}:)]
