I just flew LGW-JER this morning on my weekly commute, and I was the only pax. Four cabin crew, plus the pilots. Made for a great service on the 35 minutes or so in the air.

It was a 737. I was served a cup of tea before takeoff, and for the first time on this route I was offered Champagne for breakfast. Sadly I had to decline, as I was working. Needless to say, I was referred to by name on every occasion. The safety briefing was interesting - no way could I ignore it! In fact, I deliberately make a point of always watching the safety briefings, even though it's possibly the gazillionth time I've seen it, for two reasons. Firstly there's the obvious safety aspect, and secondly I think it's damn rude to ignore it when someone's demonstrating something.
I mentioned this to one of the FAs, who said it's like water off a duck's back when people don't listen with their head buried in a newspaper. But what really annoys me is when people talk over it when there are other pax who will want to listen. He said business routes are much worse than the B&S routes.
Also interestingly, I wasn't aware that unlike LHR, at Gatwick BA cabin crew work both long and short haul.
