Does anyone have any pointers as to getting a Visa at the Indian Embassy London? Especially if the person applying is not British?

The Indian consulate has outsourced the visa process, applications are now online and you book a time to visit one of the processing centres (I think there are three in London ...). My visa predates this and I have no idea how it's working or tips to make it work better ...
