Suitcase recommendations?

Now the dreaded 23kg limit per bag has spread widely I need to think about replacing my American Tourister hard case spinners, which probably weigh about 8kg before anything goes in[:0]. I know I can take multiple 23kg bags on both VS Upper and BA Club but it's more hassle.

So I'm looking for something that offers the convenience of the spinners (never any need for a luggage trolley), that stands up to the luggage bashers and is comparatively lightweight. And something that won't break the bank too as I need to replace two bags - so anything designer-y is likely to be out

Luggage is one area that the adage 'Buy cheap, buy twice' is very true so don't scrimp. Dragging a bag with a broken handle is no fun.

I've topped using hard cases now instead I use soft holdalls with skate wheels. Anything fragile can be wrapped in clothes/bubblewrap etc. and no matter how much you put in, there always seems to be room for just one more pair of socks.

I got my latest case which is a hard(ish) cased spinner for 40 from a luggage shop in Balham. Found it by accident. Its not a name brand, in fact can't see any name on it. It does me but then I only use it 3-4 times a year so if you travel more often you might be better paying for something stronger.

So, if your not into designer names how about just looking in

Most high streets seam to have a generic luggage store these days - I have seen Travel Zone several times

If your concerned about weight take a luggage weigher with you. IO think v-flyers bough several from I want one of those and got bonus miles !
