Dean, try going via Glasgow. That may help price wise as there are far more seats available especially in first.

Thanks for that John - given me an idea, will try for flights to GLA and then get a car.... [y]

Yup, good move Richard. It's an easy 70-80 min drive from GLA. Or even a cab to Queen St then Scotrail to Waverley - roughly the same time I would think.

Agreed, unless you're going to rent a car anyway, or have a large party, I'd take the train across to Edinburgh. I always used to rent a car to take me on the route, but once I'd tried the train I woudln't go back to a car for this journey. Plus there are small first class compartments at the front and the back of the train.

Yet another alternative is National Express East Coast from Central. They run every two hours at ten to the even hour.

Taking the lead from others, Mrs Buns & I have opted for the train from London[:D]

Have managed to get £54 each way in First (there were some on offer at £39 but at ridiculous times) so will be travelling up on the 11am our Kings X on the Friday and return on the 2pm on the Sunday.

Looking forward to another great weekend and meeting up once more

Dare I mention it, but Pam Ann's Terror at 41,000ft tour is going to be at the Assembly Rooms 31st July - 24th August. 9pm every night.

Also, the Fringe Programme is out next Thursday, so we'll all be able to see what's on soon.

That's the one we saw at the Hexagon in Reading - it was 'okay'. Not her best performance, though as always if there is a good crowd of crew in then it will be much better.

We're hoping that Alan Carr or Jimmy Carr will be on whilst we are there.

A show at 6:20pm - that could be a winner....

So the Fringe Programme for 2008 has been launched.

Joan Rivers is on that weekend, though tickets are steep at £35/piece.
Link

Shows at 3:45pm

Jimmy Carr is on that weekend too, £13-15/person.
Link

Shows at 9pm.

So what to do.... I'm thinking Mr Carr for sure on Friday night, possibly Ms Rivers on Saturday afternoon.

I got to paw through a programme last night, and I'm thinking 'Kiddie Fiddler On The Roof' is surely one for the must-see list [;)]

Man that has a ring to it, what is it? Gary Glitter re-enacting the Strangeways riot, with music by Pete Townshend?

Otis Lee Crenshaw is always good value (if you're into tattooed ex convicts) and I must see out the delightfully titled 'I Caught Crabs in Walberswick' as I did that for many a year when the offspring were too little to foist on the travelling public.

so, avoiding plugging my very own show, my must see top tips this year are.

Tim Minchin, Mark Watson, Pappys Fun Club, Lucy Porter, Michael McIntyre, Nina Conti, Daniel Kitson, Stewart Lee, Rich Hall, Phil Nichol, Stephen K Amos... and many more, but that's the list for now.

Just trying to get this straight in my own mind - did she (and monkey) appear in 'For Your Consideration' as a weather person ?
