I mutted sept so diaries might be clearer - -

I'm up to my neck in work & parental duties, so unlikely the original idea of the boat will be arranged by me.

5th or 19th Sept good for me, 19th better.

SOO true, not been to railway museum for decades!! & only live 1/2hr away!

Can I be bold and suggest the 19th as the proposed date?

Can't do the 19th during the day, evening is a possibility as is the Sunday.

York sounds good. HdV very nice, and there is a Premier Inn or similar next door so that all budgets catered for. Its a little walk into town, but nothing too serious.

Weekend of the 19th sounds good. We are in SF the weekend afterwards. :D

19th September is also 'International Talk Like a Pirate Day', so I think honouring that would be appropriate [:)]

Boozy train to York for the Southerners, tour of the rail museum then getting drunk in York center. Sounds fab! And Neil can make it in the evening [:)]

Thanks,
Sarah

Was this picked out from your 'favourites' [:I]

Remember bobble hats and notepads....

19th sounding good, train spotting, followed by pints of Mild.

Sounds like a plan is starting to form then. Maybe should make this an official social event now with confirmed date, list of attendee's etc to start to firm things up.

Rather bizarrely, I can't officially do the 19th; I'll be out with friends celebrating my birthday.

However, as said birthday celebration takes the form of our (in)famous York Pub Crawl (a long-standing and much loved tradition), I suppose there's every chance that the mdvipond party could bump into the V-Flyer party at some point...?

After watching Top Gear last night, the train museum is a must. The train they used is actually going to York on 19th Sept!

Just FYI, there for London based travellers, there are two rival train companies going to YORK.

One is Grand Central Trains, the young upstart that GNER/NXEC hate, and they operate non stop, but they only have four trains a day and the last one back is just after 7pm.
Then there is National Express East Coast who have a much wider spread of services, and with the exception of non changeable Advance tickets, which I don't think are on sale yet, are usually more expensive.

FYI seats are only made available 12 weeks or so before departure. If there is any concern that engineering works may affect services they'll hold the allocation until they receive confirmed timetables.

So we can do the 19th (could do with a lazy weekend before Holiday but the V-Flyer meet always lures us).

The Railway Museum is great, they have an original Shinkasen there [:D]

Have fun !

I'm sure that CAN be arranged at a pre-agreed hostelry.

Well, it goes without saying that you are, one and all, more than welcome to join us on any part of the pub crawl. Even Neil.

We managed 9 pubs last year which - whilst it may be a little too much for some of our softer Southern cousins - would be a walk in the proverbial park for our Northern brethren. We even have a route map with all the pubs on (in case anyone gets lost/waylaid).

If anyone wanted to bump into us in one or more of the afore mentioned pubs, buy me a birthday pint and prove to my mates that not all V-Flyers are nerds, I'm sure it would be quite jolly...

Now that you mention it, I think Zoot Suits should be compulsory.
