Intro and seat question...

Hi all, this is my 2nd post on VF - the info on this site is great! I stumbled across you after EasyGoingGeezer posted up a link on The Dibb.

My husband and I are flying to MCO on June 8th this year for his big 4-0 birthday! We are flying Upper both ways and are only away for a week - returning on 15th June, no kids with us this time (thanks mum!) so should be a good trip!

We have reserved 6A & 6K for the outbound but - and I know this is childish - I don't want to do OLCI as I have never flown upper before and want to swan along to upper check in desk Are Virgin likely to give someone else my seats to someone who used OLCI or is it a case of 'I have bagsyed them so they will remain mine'?

We only managed 9 A & K on the way back as all further forward seats were showing as taken.

6A & K are great seats, they were the ones we had for our very first UC flight. There is something so cool about being able to look at a photo of a 747 and point at the front three windows and say thats where I sat. They are also great for couples travelling as you don't have to shout or crank your neck to have a chat.

If you have pre-selected the seats then IIRC those are your seats, however it is best to check in early to make sure everything is ok.

Oh and I totally agree with you about not wanting to use OLCI. On our recent LHR->SFO flight we were in the UC queue and we were offered a Premium check-in desk that was free. I politely, to the slight embarrasment of my bf, turned them down. I was flying UC and I wanted to check in UC. So don't worry - your not alone.

Firstly welcome to the site. And how wonderful that you have decided to join as a paid up member- respect - thank you to you and great idea egg posting the link on the Dibb site.

The chances are you will hang on to your seats. However don't be shy about the waltz up the red carpet. I love it! The only problem is because of the self service checkin machines, other people don't now get such a good view of your walk of glory! You can of course still do OLCI and use the UC check in desk - there is nothing forcing you to use the DIY bag drop. That way you would have an even better chance of getting your seats and you would still be able to swan up to the desk.

Be aware that no seat allocation, even OLCI, is absolutely guaranteed. The seats could turn out to be broken or something for example. However this is so unlikely as not to worry about.

Assuming you are either flying from MAN or LGW, you can OLCI "AND"
swan up the pretty carpet, at least thats what I have always done.

And well done on a good choice of seats, these are the ones I picked and I love logging on to the VA website and having a little look ( at least once a day[:I])

I have to say that the Dibb site is really good fun to be a member of too.

I've only flown UC once, also on a LGW 744. FWIW on the way back I would prefer to sit on the same 'side' as my companion i.e. 9 & 10 A or 9 & 10 K. You feel closer together and I found it easier to talk to each other over the divider rather than across the wide aisle.

Exept in row 6 where there is virtually no aisle.

Yes I agree with row 6 on the way out, it's a shame it's reserved for the return leg.

Thanks for that. We've taken your advice (and were given similar advice by some others) and now have 9 & 10K. Just a little concerned at being so close to the bar for the night flight. Hic.

Sorry to add to this old thread, but just to clarify seating. As a couple who like to chat on the flight(quietly!!!), if you can't get 6A and 6K, is it better then to have a seat behind than accross the aisle? Thanks. This will be our first UC trip(well we have done Sunshine First on TCD!!!) and like the OP I am so excited I want it right. My husband wants to swan down the red carpet too!!

IMHO, if you can't get 6A & 6K on a LGW 744, I would opt for the seat on the same side/behind. Although there is a screen separating both seats you can lean over to speak to each other rather than having to get out of your seat if you were sitting opposite ie in 8A and 8K.
