Mexico to Allow Use of Drugs
Fox will sign the bill, one of the world's most permissive policies, in a bid to curb trafficking. U.S. officials say it will lead to more addiction.

MEXICO CITY — Mexican President Vicente Fox will sign a bill that would legalize the use of nearly every drug and narcotic sold by the same Mexican cartels he's vowed to fight during his five years in office, a spokesman said Tuesday.

The list of illegal drugs approved for personal consumption by Mexico's Congress last week is enough to make one dizzy — or worse.

Cocaine. Heroin. LSD. Marijuana. PCP. Opium. Synthetic opiates. Mescaline. Peyote. Psilocybin mushrooms. Amphetamines. Methamphetamines.

Well,this is all over the radio and tv here right now,in the US cities along the border the police and people involved in polotics are saying that this will have negative effects,increase in crime etc.

No drug's here,with my addictive personality I know that if I ever tried anything like cocaine I would be dead in 6 months.

No idea on the Mexican people's reaction..do we have any members that line in Mexico [?]

We are not going for those reasons; only to celebrate finishing up school. We do not do drugs. I would lose my medical and would be able to fly. Mom and Dad would not be happy with the $80K down te sh-er just for a fun night. And who does drug these days? Drugs are so 1980s and Redneck.

Certianly nothing personal Bazz but drugs anger me and I rather read VF than study for my History final exam as I only need a 38 % to keep my A (highest grade) in the class.

Some people would say that this whole Mexico drug thing is to counter the US' debates on undocumented workers and illegal immigration. Personally I think undocumented (falsly) workers help society but then again it is a pain is foot to go to any country and work besides your own; EU, work-holiday programs, and other things Google could find withheld.

So they're going to allow drugs to be used![:?][:0][:(!]

How about if someone is found taking drugs in the US on the border, say San Diego, then they could just say that they took whatever it was and then crossed the border?[?][xx(]

Does anyone know how long this has been in the pipeline, as it could be to get back at the US after all the talks about the new immigrant worker legislation?[:?]

You would probably be arrested for being under the influence of a controled substance.

It's been in the pipeline for a while.

To answer Ben's stamement and not wanting to turn this into a political debate,take a look at some point at the health care expense for illgals and also the fact that 3000 people a year are killed by illegal immagrant who then go back to avoid prosecution.

Dave, whilst 3000 deaths a year seems plausable I imagine thats a very small percentage of deaths in the USA

It's a difficult subject as with many things there are pros and cons - the cons you have mentioned but the fact remains that illegals will do the crappy jobs that americans wouldnt touch - for less than the minimum wage. Until that situation changes illegals will always be part of the social picture

Jonathan,as I said above,im not going to turn this into a political thing as this isn't the place for it,however I will say this.

The company I work for has a high number of legal immagrants working for it,myself included and from speaking to them and the discussions we have had I can tell you that the general feeling is that this is a non-issue,something the politicians are using to try and get votes during an election year.

Though large numbers of people did turnout for protests on May 1st it should also be noted that an equaly large number of people turned out to protest them.

Again this is a total lightening rod and one that I would prefer to stay away from on here.

The funny thing about this whole issue is the people whos lives would be greatest affected cannot vote on the issue but would they vote if they could?

Well they cannot vote becuase they are illegal's,they do not have the right to vote,THEY decided to come to this country by illegal means,so should they have the right to vote?

Just to note the Mexican President Vicente Fox did not sign the bill yesterday,he sent it back to the Mexican congress for changes.

Whilst "across the pond" last month, I saw a cartoon in USA Today (I think) showing what it would be like without all the illegal immigrants. There was one picture where someone had ordered a salad and it came out at $80 and I can't remember the other[:I]
