New VS Credit Card Details

I think it's down to V Hols not having online card authorisation via Amex in place. All online payments to V Hols are authorised and processed instantly online.

thanks goodness, even the dreaded Easyjet takes amex!

So all we need now is for VH to add on-line Amex authorisations and add the FC discount automatically, and we shouldn't have to ring them again! [:o)]

Aha! I have to admit, I looked on their website and it wasn't listed there, but that's good, if it's accepted in their stores...

Still not sure a couple of my big spends accept Amex, but ultimately I'll get one as the VS spend is a good deal in itself, particularly up to July 2007..

Will MBNA want you to close your existing M/C card or are they assuming you will run 2 cards? The application just looks like it is for a 'Brand New' card.

Looking at the web site, a couple of quick questions....

1) How do you get the 10000 mile bonus / 4 points per £ / 6 point per £ with VH/VS? Is this in the form of an offer I can expect through the door anytime in the next few days? ( As I think Dean has? )

2) The companion award wording is different to the Upgrade reward wording, saying "...you will receive a complimentary companion reward flight the next time you book a qualifying flight with Virgin Atlantic.". This *seems* to mean that you'll have no choice in the matter, whereas the upgrade reward seems more at your option. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's how it reads.

Well I've just converted one of my two old VS mastercards to Amex.
Its very simple, infact you don't even speak to a member of staff. All you need to do is type in your card number and DOB and confirm twice and its all put in motion.
The recording suggests that once the new Amex card is activated the old Mastercard will cease (they ask you to cut it up - so guessing so..)

Annoyingly though, one company I make a couple of big spends a year with don't accept Amex [n] I didn't tell them it was credit and not charge but I don't think that makes a difference does it?

I've just finished a very confusing conversation with a member of staff at MBNA. I *think* [:I] that you can keep your Virgin Mastercard AND apply for a new Amex card and run both cards simultaeously. However the Mastercard will cease to earn you Flying Club miles after 31/12/06. I have applied online for the new amex card and i'll prob keep my mastercard open until it stops earning me miles. I can then close that one down. Please anyone correct me if i'm wrong here.

How did you convert your card then? I've had an email telling me about the new cards but nothing to suggest you 'convert' online?

If you keep both open there may be problems with your credit limit. MBNA have offered you a certain line of credit, if you now want to double that, a new credit check may be required, whereas if you want to transfer, they can just move your credit line from one to another.

There was a similar issue with the old M/C where you could apply for another card, but they would split your limit between the two. When I closed my old m/c one, they just moved the limit to my new card.

If you apply for the card as a new user and keep the old mastercard active until December ( rather than convert ) ,I presume you don't get the 4,000 extra bonus miles ( 10,000 rather than 6,000) and the 'extra' miles for purchases ( 4 per £ ) until July 2007 that Richard mentioned in the first post[?]

The T&C make no mention of the 10k bonus miles if you apply before the 15/9/06, nor the double miles until July 07, and no details of how the spending will be carried over for the companion reward.

Anyone had any of these details confirmed?

Yes you are right the guy did mention they may have to split my credit limit over the two but that i would be informed if this was so and i could decide if i wanted to go for the transfer instead.

There are details of the miles earning opportunities sent out in the post today. 10000k miles on your first spend if its before 15th Sept.
These are for the black card, not sure what the conditions are for the white card. And I'm guessing infor packs have only been sent out to existing VS credit card customers.

Got my white card pack this morning.

5000 miles if you spend something by 15 Sept.

2 miles per £1 spend (up to 1st £10k) until 31st July 2007 then 1 mile per £1.

3 miles per £1 spend on VH and VA up to the 1st £10k until 31st July 2007....then 2 miles per £1.

Plus the upgrade to PE option when you spend £10k before the anniversary of your mastercard, and a second opportunity for the next £10k spent.


Nice if you bought say a UC return from LHR-SFO as you would get 3 x 2800 miles for buying the flight = 8400 miles
+ 5000 bonus miles = 13,400
+ the 15,000ish for the flight, so a nice easy 28-29,000 miles for that

Or even LHR-SYD for £2800ish to give around 55,000 miles.......

as mentioned above - real easy to convert - got my in the mail this morning
now wait for my black card - and 10000 bonus miles, companion and 2 upgrades per year, plus 4 miles per pound until july 2007!!

not forgetting 6 miles if spent with VS/VH.

plus I prefer the VS brand as opposed to Virgin.

so all in all I think its much better than the existing one.

one question tho I still have is

what is meant by the 'two premium economy reward upgrades'

you think this means buy an economy ticket - which class tho?, and get a free upgrade to premium?

No, it means redeem miles for an Economy ticket and get upgrade to Premium ( I guess this means that reward availability must be available in PE, but you just get charged the x number of miles for an Economy reward )

From the FAQ : "Spend £10,000 on your Virgin Atlantic White Card (£5,000 if youÕve got the Virgin Atlantic Black Card) each year, and youÕll get a round trip Premium Economy reward upgrade the next time you book a qualifying reward flight in Economy."

If I spend 80,000 miles on two economy tickets, one for me and one for my wife, to, say, Dubai and I have two upgrade vouchers for spending more than £10,000 with a black card will I be able to upgrade both tickets to premium economy?
