Firstly let me say sorry as I know there have been loads of "which hotel threads" on here but I could just do with a bit of advise from some Vegas experts, if you would be so kind....

Me and t'other are off to Vegas next Sept and after much discussion our choice of hotel has been narrowed to either "The Wynn" or "The Bellagio", we are both young guys, (24 & 26) like lots of luxury and want somewhere that will suit our age etc, so please can somebody in the know tell us which one is best?? We will want an above basic suite, if that has any bearings.

(we did think also about The Venetian, The Hotel, and MGM)

Once again sorry but this is kinda specific so thought I would start again.

Hi Neil, we've stayed in lots of Vegas hotels and for our trip this year (October) we wanted to try somewhere different. We initially booked the Wynn but then cancelled as read quite a few negative reports on Tripadvisor. We're now booked into THEHotel at Mandalay Bay, the reviews of it all seem to be fabulous, including one that VFlyer's Shazam wrote year before last.

In fairness to the Wynn I reckon they had some early teething problems so probably unfair to switch our booking based on a few negative reviews! Needless to say, we always book on-line direct with the hotel meaning that you're free to cancel anytime up to 24 hrs before and receive a refund of deposit back on your credit card. In fact in recent months I've been credited more than I had paid in the first place owing to the improving exhange rate[y] Also, it's important to remember that Vegas room rates go up & down like yo yo's so if you suddenly see your hotel offering cheaper deals on your dates simply cancel and re-book in your partner's name!

You mentioned the Bellagio, we've stayed there twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you arrive on a Sunday ask what their upgrade rates are and they may offer you a fab deal on a Penthouse Suite as they did to us last year :)

We're staying at the Wynn in just under three weeks. If you can hang on I'll be glad to let you know our thoughts after we return.

I was in Las Vegas the other week. Ive Never Stayed in The Wynn or the Bellegio but i have been inside the hotels. I have to say out of the two the Wynn would be my choice. The Location of the hotel is also great, right in the middle of the strip [i have to say there was a building site next to the hotel, but could of gone by the time you go]. However out of the The Venetian, The Hotel, and MGM i would stay at The Hotel, as the other two seem abit more dated than the hotel is. Yet again i have been inside all these hotels the casino and my overall impression of the MGM seems old and smells, and ive seen pictures of their overly priced suits which aren't that nice! the venetian offers loads as a hotel but i cant say ive seen their suits, the only thin ive seen of it [if accurate] is on Mrs Congeniality 2[:?] lol!!
As for the hotel which i have stayed in is absolutly great, rather expensive but 5 star. its the last hotel on the strip and its a hell of a long walk down the strip but you can get on buses and monorails down the strip etc.
Hope the hotel choosing goes well for you!!

Are you 100% set on staying on the strip,if so you will so go far wrong with either of those hotels,if not then you may want to look at the RedRock which according to friends that have stayed there is amazing, having only been in the casino part I can say that it makes the Wynn or Bellagio look like dirt.

Thanks everyone for you feedback[y][y], Would be good to hear your review on the Wynn when you are back Wood07:).

Jetwet, We are not set in stone to stay on the strip but just thought as it was our first trip it was probably best, although I must admit looking at Red Rock it does look fab, where about's is it located and is it far from the strip??

Think we are leaning towards the Wynn now if we stay on the strip, although will decide on who gives the best room rates I guess, but with so many different Suites how do we know which is a good one and which is a totally OTT one (which I do like the sound of ;))

Keep your eyes peeled for promotion codes. The one we used is no longer valid, the code "amex" sometimes offers a good discount but unfortunately you can't book as far ahead as next September on the Wynn website yet to check the rates.

The Red Rock is located up in Summerlin,it's about a 20 min drive from the strip depending on traffic.

Yes have looked at TheHotel, I thought it looked nice but everywhere I have looked/read says that if you want a true 5* hotel then the Wynn/Bellagio are the only 2 to consider. Im totally naive on this subject so any advice is much appreciated. How would the Wynn compare with the TheHotel??

We have just got back from Vegas where we stayed at the Venetian (Venezia tower). I preferred it to the Bellagio where we stayed last year. A little more friendly and relaxed, and you didn't need to walk through the casino to get to your room from the car park/restaurants etc.

Also I preferred the casino at the Venetian because the slot machines tended to not play those silly tunes all the time.

HI Neil,

THEhotel is an all suite hotel, the rates they quote are for proper suites (separate living area & bedroom) - they're around 750 sq ft. The Wynne's rates are for rooms, you have to pay extra for suites. Hope this helps.

James
PS: I just noticed that the price has dropped from when we booked a few months back so I've just cancelled and rebooked in other half's name [y]

No problem Neil. Remember that you can maintain total flexibility by booking direct on any of the hotels' web sites, they all seem to offer the same policy - ie. pay 1st nights rate + tax up front & have option to cancel with full refund up until a day (sometimes a 2-3 days) before arrival. I think this is excellent as you can chop & change to your heart's content!! With Expedia and other similar sites they also allow you to cancel but generally there's a fee (£15-£20)

Its tricky for us booking direct with Hotel, we are doing Vegas/San Fran/LA,and really wanted to book with VH for ease, they will be able to book my internals/car hire/flights/hotels/upgrades all together and I get 10% off too, which on a 5k holiday is handy.

Going to price it all up, both ways but its handy to know I can cencel with full refund if I book direct with Hotel, thanks[y]

James is right; this would have been my pick as well. Roomy, quiet suites, some with excellent plane-spotting views of the runways at LAS. Some deals can be had on pricing. The suites have an intimate feel; the lighting is adjustable, rooms are perfectly sized. The baths are nicely appointed too.

Now, having said that, I recently had to go to LAS for a quick business dinner and was booked by one of our banks into the Wynn. Didn't know what to expect as I'd heard some "horror stories" about the Wynn's "teething problems". To be fair here I did not experience any of the foodservice. But the rooms -- well, let me just say I was blown away. The hotel upgraded me (a smile upon check-in never hurts) to a corner room on the 25th floor. Floor to ceiling glass, electronically controlled window shades, "space age" phones, ultra luxurious and comfy bed (romantic -- wish to heck I'd had someone there to enjoy it with). The latest digital TV on the wall (same as at THEHotel). Bath fine.

Despite all the positives at The Wynn I'd still choose THEHotel for the best in privacy, mostly, I think, because one goes through the casino (which is huge) at the Wynn in order to reach the guest rooms; at THEHotel you can access the hotel via a separate entrance. As for location, both properties are at opposite ends of the Strip. Food and amenities -- both hotels have plenty. But I'm a fan of Mandalay Bay and that's the hotel connected with THEHotel. Bottom line for me: I still like THEHotel.

Bellagio is over the top, excellent, and yes, luxurious. But packed to the rafters with people! Do you guys like that? Bellagio also has an excellent location and good shopping. Mandalay/THEHotel has a cool, real beach with waves.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip.

Fistly - thanks Chuck[y] - must admit what you have described above is the kinda thing we are looking for but....

No we don't like it too busy, and it is something that is putting us off the Bellagio - we just really are wanting something trendy/modern but with a touch of class, which suits that description best?? Really considering TheHotel now, read a lot of reviews in last couple of days and nothing but positives.

I loved TheHotel [y], as Chuck mentioned it's a nice quite haven away from the hustle and bustle of the rest of the casinos and Vegas.

I just had a minor issue with my suite not being ready when I checked in. The guys on the front desk gave me a suite which they had down as being ready but in fact was still in the process of being cleaned and wow what a mess that suite was as well, I've never seen a hotel room or suite so messy before. I'd never dream of leaving a hotel room in that state once I'd left!!!

Anyway after 90 mins and several trips between my suite and the front desk, they ended up giving me an upgraded suite which was ready.

Neil,
If I had to flip a coin, I'd say THEHotel will come through for you. Based on the type of experience you are seeking, I'd be surprised if you didn't like it. My advice is to check in as early as possible, and don't be afraid to ask about upgrades. Sometimes for an extra US50/night you can get a corner suite on a high floor (the last time I was there they gave it to me for no extra charge as my room wasn't ready and I let slip that I was a returning guest). At the top of the THEhotel is "Mix" a cool restaurant and lounge where being seen trumps the food honestly, but the overall experience is neat; as a hotel guest you go in front of the long line at the elevator on the bottom floor.

Here is the reservation site for THEHotel.

Thanks Chuck, I think you have persuaded me to give it a go, it does sound/look just what we are after, I like to look of the Wynn but the suites do look very expensive and whilst I don't want cheap, a few extra pennies for gambling wouldn't go amiss!! ;)
