From the New York Times:

...And there is the likelihood of more large-scale projects on the horizon. Yesterday, Goldman Sachs paid $1.3 billion for the four Nevada casinos owned by Carl C. Icahn’s American Real Estate Partners, including the Stratosphere Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, but also a precious 17 acres of undeveloped land on the Strip.

Interesting read Bazz, thanks!
Looking at the plans, whilst not being the most attractive building in their portfolio (and I wouldn't want a room on a low floor) the Mandarin Oriental will be a must stay for me when it opens.
As expected its to be a non gaming "boutique" hotel.
I like the way in Vegas 400 rooms is classed as boutique :)

Yes it is amusing, 400 rooms anywhere else would be a very large hotel. The MO will be a must for us too, there is a new rendering of it and the entire City Center Development on vegastodayandtomorrow.com which is a great site and can be viewed here and the MO itself here. This has not been posted very long as the site recently removed all renderings of the project at the request of MGM Mirage. This being the latest approved rendering looks good and hopefully it will be pretty close to what will be built.

if you scroll down the page this
Hey, let's build three buildings for $64 million, use them for three years, then tear 'em down.

makes interesting reading and goes to illustrate money has a different value in Vegas. [:?]

Maybe it should be called MF or UMF? ;) My comments about the rendering looking good referred to the overall city Center Project, I agree the MO does not look attractive as depicted by the artists.

I doubt it...rumor mill is saying CC is going bye bye, gutted and redone with a new hotel tower.

As it was the first place I worked at way back when I will be sorry if it does go, but time marches on.

There are plans in the work already to build on the site of the old El Rancho and the RV park plus you have as the article said Fontainebleau Resort going in on the site of the new El Rancho at some point.

A lot of things will happen at the north end of the strip over the next 3 - 5 years.
