Not quite Vegas...

I realise this is very slightly off-topic, but I'm trying to get some info that I have a feeling that Las Vegan's will probably be able to help with...

I know that Phoenix is hot in the summer, but is it really as hot as its reputed to be? Is the heat bearable? We are locked into school holiday dates - think August - and I wondered whether a villa/house rental in the phoenix area is viable? I don't really want to go to Florida, but want somewhere hot and sunny and not TOO Disney. If not Phoenix, then a beach would be another big plus.

Any info/help/ideas appreciated.

Stayed in Phoenix back in the early 90's - From memory yes it's certainly hot but not unbearable. Like everywhere in the states that has hot weather they are geared up for it with air-con etc

Have you thought about San Diego?

We went to a ranch about 60 miles from Pheonix Easter 2006. The day we left it was pushing the high 90's during the day. I know that the ranch decamps to Colorado in the summer as it's too hot do much outside.

It is 5 - 10 degree's hotter than Vegas down there...

If the heat worries you look in the Sedona area..

The humidty is pretty low like Las Vegas so it's not that bad.

I remember doing a walk in Las Vegas from Downtown all the way through the pikey pits to the South end of the Strip when the Mandalay Bay used to be the Hacienda, about twelve years ago or so, in 105 to 110 deg F and, yes, it was hot, but it was certainly bareable.

On the other hand doing a similar distance walk in Singapore in the low 90s recently was sweat inducing to say the least (for me at any rate).

You do have to watch for the effects of the sun and dehydration though even if not that blazingly sunny.

I did something similar wearing my battered panama to cover my bald head. All was fine until I removed the hat in the shade at which point my eyes were deluged with a waterfall of perspiration.
