I've had a look at the seat review plans for the A340-600 aircraft that we will be flying all the way to Aus in later this year but there are not too many reviews on the lowly economy seat that we have.

Does anybody have any comments or guidance as to the best seating positions in economy class on the A340-600?

TIA

Welcome to V-Flyer

There have been lots of comments in various threads - not easy to do a search though. Try reading through some of the economy TRs. None of the economy seats apart from exit row / bulkheads are wildly different from the others - by the end of a trip to OZ, they won't be your favourite places to be.:D

There are mixed opinions as to the seats at the back where the aircraft curves (Rows 61-65). There may be a little extra room around them, and they are the first for the drinks and meal service, but they are very close to the toilets.

IMHO, the best bet is to try and get an exit row seat - these can only be allocated at check in and attract an extra charge ?£75? now for a flight over 8 hours IIRC. They are also very slightly narrower than other Y seats, but the extra leg room is worth it on a long flight.

Nick, do you know if these can be selected using OLCI?

Thanks

AFAIK the exit row seats can't be selected when you do OLCI. You have to show the agent you are physically fit, and able to operate the door in the case of emergency.

The allocation of exit row seats remains a mystery to me though. there have been several occasions when I have checked in VERY early, only to be told that they have all gone. [?]

Thanks Nick!

I think the best bet is to try your advice and attempt to get exit row seats at check-in. I currently have 64H & 64I which is right at the back which I think I have read from a TR but then as they are right by the toilets I thought they might not be the most comfortable place to be with all the human "traffic".

If only I had enough miles to upgrade *sob* :)
